XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ASIMOV, Isaac. I, Robot. New York: GnomePress, Inc. (1950). First edition, wrappered issue, orpossibly second printing (see additional informationbelow). Pages browned, two small chips to the wrappers,a very good or a little better copy. One of reportedly 2500copies (we have also heard the figure of just 200 copiesfrom another source, which seems to be discredited) ofthe first edition sheets bound up by the publisher inwrappers duplicating the dustjacket art. The intention andpublication history of this variant is disputed: it was doneeither as an "Armed Services Edition" or as a short-livedexperiment in paperback publishing. The publisher alsoissued three other titles thusly, but quickly abandoned theproject. One source asserts that these were reprinted in1951 from the original printing plates (retaining the firstedition statement). At any rate this is by far rarer than thehardcover issue of the first edition. Basis, or moreproperly, inspiration for the 2004 film directed by AlexProyas and featuring Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, andAlan Tudyk. A rarity, the fragility of the constructionassured that few of the copies survived. #77154 ............................................................................................... $9,500XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ASIMOV, Isaac.
