When we choose to follow Jesus
we become a disciple
A Disciple means you become a “Learner”(different sections of education such as arts, science, social etc.
are called “Disciplines”)
“Disciplines” suggest boundaries or restrictionsIn the this case it is a SET Path to follow
His footstepsWe need to get to know “What would Jesus do”
BUT first we need to get to know Jesus, who is he?
The Christian never takes the “L” plates off
There are 3,586,489 letters in the bible
31,173 verses;
777,692 words;
1189 chapters
66 books
Ezra 7:21 contains all the letters of the alphabet
Esther 8:9 is the longest verse in the bible.
Anyone know the shortest verse in the bible?
John 11:35. Jesus wept

The New Testament is similar in structure
HISTORY- THE 4 Gospels and Acts of the Apostles
EXPERIENCE- Epistles to Christians- how to enjoy
The Christian life-
PROPHECY- Revelation
The Bible is a record, of how
God has revealed himself to
Man (mankind)
His main revelations are seen in
CREATION- He is Great and Good
MOSES and the Law (Ten Commandments) He is Holy
JESUS CHRIST - God is Love-
The Bible is in two parts
The Old Testament
and
The New Testament
What is the difference?
(TWO AGREEMENTS BETWEEN God & Man)
What were the agreements about?
Why did God have to make a new agreement?
“Testament” means “Agreement” or “Covenant”
God has made Two Covenants with Man.
The purpose of the covenants was to ensure a right relationshipbetween the parties.
God & Man
God made “man” for himself, to love, and care for as his children
The First Covenant was based upon Law.
God gave Ten Specific commandments to Moses, written in stone.
The conditions were
Do this And you will LIVE and be BLESSED
Don’t do it And you will experience SICKNESS, DEATH and a CURSE
The Law promised salvation to those who kept it- “salvation by works”
So the Law could not save anyoneAll guilty
But the New Testament promises salvation, NOT to those who do good worksBut to those who have FAITH in Jesus Christ
Jesus did all the “works” necessary, on our behalf for God to be satisfied
He is our Saviour- He died to save us
Under the New AgreementThose who believe that Jesus is the Son of God
And that Jesus took our place on the crossHe died in our placeHe paid for our sins
He paid the debt we owe.BUT
To be saved we mustRepent - Believe - be Baptised
Justified before God by faith (as above) and not by our worksOr by keeping commandments
In Scotland when a man was hanged, a notice was pinned outside the prison that said
e.g. John McDonald was Justified at 9 am
THE KEY to the Scriptures is Jesus Christ
Ps 40:7-8Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
When prophesying about the coming Messiah, David wrote;
Notice what happened after Jesus rose from the dead
In Luke ch 24
Jesus appeared to two disciples while they were walking to Emmaus
Luke 24:25-2725 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Then in the same chapter Jesus appeared to the other disciplesLuke 24:36-4636 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.41 And when they could not believe it for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any food?42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.43 And he took it, and did eat before them.44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
The Bible should not be read as a
Our desire to know what future holds is not one which God subscribes to or endorses.
He wants our PEACE to come by.
1. What is the factual, historical content.E.g, who wrote it when it was written, why it was written etc.
2. What does this scripture tell me of Christ
3. What does it say to me Personally.
We should read the Bible with three things in MInd
The Bible teaching in this school is based upon 3 things
1. Principles
2. Parables
3. Patterns
These show the INSPIRATION OF THE SCRIPTURES
The bible is the inspired word of God, not humanly inspired
God is number 1, top of the list, He always comes first
To worship God means to serve God.
The most important thing God looks for in a man or woman is Faith.
Man’s trust in God is shown by his obedience
Salvation is the work of God alone
The Bible is a spiritual book, written in the language of heavenThe Holy Spirit teaches us the language
God expects man to be 1. In a right relationship with Him2. A right relationship with his fellow human beings
Two divisions. Heaven & Earth, The Spiritual & NaturalThe Spirit and the Flesh, Saved & Lost,
The Kingdom of God operates from the centre1. Our right relationship with God2. Our right relationship with the church3 The church’s witness to the world
Three basics of Christian life1. Knowing the Word of God2. Prayer- fellowship with God3. Witness to unbelievers (the world)
The second always gets the blessing
Cain & Abel Ishmael & Isaac Esau & Jacob Saul & David
All parables of the Flesh and the Spirit
Animal skin and fig leaves
Salvation by works or faith in the blood
Noah’s ark Abraham & Isaac. Tabernacle offerings & sacrifices
All parables of Calvary

All parables of Jesus Christ.
All parables of the church

Horses, stars, water corn, oil, wine, trees, mountains, colours, numbers
Just a few of the many natural things which are types of the spiritual
LIFE – SERVICE - SACRIFICE
GOD AND ME-THE CHURCH AND ME- THE CHURCH
AND THE WORLDJESUS- OTHERS- YOURSELF
PAIRS- Faith & Obedience: justification & sanctification Heaven Hell, Spiritual and Natural, Saved and Lost
CREATION
THE FALL
When God speaks of “LIFE” he is not thinking of Natural life in a human body
He is referring to SPIRITUAL LIFE which is living in a body yet at the same time In fellowship with God Himself.
GOD IS LIFE
In the Garden of Eden, when Adam sinned, he lost the personal fellowship with His Creator GodThe Light went out within Him. He was separated from God. This is what God meant when he told Adam that the day they ate of the forbidden fruit, THEY WOULD SURELY DIE
They did not die Physically, but spiritually “THEY SURELY DIED”
Man chose to know the difference between good and evilBlack on white, white on black, darkness and light,
joy and pain, love and hate.
CREATION
THE FALLMORAL DECLINE
THE FLOOD- THE ARK
In this ark three miraclesAre manifest.1. Tablets written by the finger of God2. A pot of manna that stayed fresh3. A severed branch of an almond tree stayed alive and budded
Is this believable? The Ark of the Covenant;Where God’s presence dwelt
ARK No 1
If the voice of God said “Come” (Gen. 7:1)
And later God’s voice said “Go” (Gen. 8:16) Then where was God?
If God the creator and sustainerof all life was manifest in the first ark, was also in this ark,Where would be a problem oflogistics in terms of food etc
ARK No. 2Noah’s Ark
It is agreed, even by those who think the story of Noah’s Arkis but a parable, that it points to salvation which is obtainedthrough the cross of Christ; As Noah’s ark took the full force of the judgment deluge, soChrist bore the judgment for our sins
The Cross as an arkis a greater and more
Unbelievable Ark than any of the first two.
If one can believe inthe Resurrection life
issuing from this, then surelyIt cant be difficult to
believe in the natural lifesustained in the first two.
