Through a narrative combining mathema-tical riddles with a world of fantasy, this story brings the reader closer to the profound ideas of probability.

The reader can experiment and analyze the situations described in the story by accessing interactive games through QR codes found all over the book.

This story can be used to stimulate interest towards mathematics, motivate the learning of probability or as a resource to support teaching.

The Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) is a world-class center for research and advanced training in applied mathematics of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of Universidad de Chile. It was created in the year 2000, and its mission is to create mathematics that solve problems coming from the industry, public policies and other sciences.

Since its inception in 2000, one of CMM's main focal points has been teaching and learning school mathematics. In the last 10 years, the Mathematical Education Lab (CMM-E) has become a reference in mathematics education in Chile, supporting a development program focused on producing visible and mid-term changes at a system level, through the strengthening of teaching capacities across the country.

More than 20 people are part of CMM-E, including researchers, teachers and professionals with various specializations in education, social sciences, as well as designers and programmers. In 2018, the “Suma y Sigue: Matemática en línea” (Adding it up: Mathematics online) project, one of the main initiatives for teacher professional development at CMM, received the UNESCO-Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers. This award was fundamental for the development of the book “Alice in Randomland” and an incentive to keep innovating in mathematics education.
