NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 6519: 1993 ‘Diesel engines — Fuelinjection pumps — Tapers for shaft ends and hubs’ issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of theAutomotive Primemovers, Transmissions and Steering Systems and Internal Combustion EnginesSectional Committee and approval of the Transport Engineering Division Council.

The Sectional Committee decided to align the Indian Standard with the corresponding InternationalStandards recommendation wherever feasible and wherever the domestic considerations were not sointense so as to have standards different from the ISO Standards. This decision was taken with a viewto upgrade the quality of the products in line with the International Standards.

This standard was first published in 1983. The first revision was undertaken due to revision of thebase standard as indicated above.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

The number ofsignificant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified valuein this standard.

1 Scope.

This International Standard specifies the dimensions necessa~ for interchangeability of tapered shaft ends andhubs of fuel injection pumps for diesel (compression-ignition) engines.

NOTE 1 These tapered shaft ends and hubs may also be used for other applioetionswithout woodruff keys where no spe-cific standards exist.

2 Dimensions and tolerances

To ensure satisfactory operation of the taper drive, it is necessaty for manufacturers to provide such cone angletolerances that the contact between the male and female cones commences at the major diameter.

2.1 Shaft ends with taper

Shaft ends shall be as shown in figure 1 and table 1. The shaft ends may be made optionally according to type 1or 2. However, it shall be possible to screw the go-gauge for the thread up to the XX line.

2.2 KeyWays of hub with taper

Hub keyways shall be as shown in figure 2 and table 2. The length of the hub cone shall be such that, after as-sembling, the face at the smaller diameter of the hub cone lies so far in front of the XX line (see figures 1 and 2)that the fixing nut can be correctly screwed up.
