About the Cover: Gary and Kelly Skeel, new owners of Wine Down Tasting and Tapas, toast

with Wes Shie from the Northeast Indiana Small

Business Development Center to a successful

    partnership. Experience this new restaurant

concept by taking one of our wine tasting

    classes, featured on page 25.

When Gary Skeel and his wife Kelly had the idea for a unique hotspot Wine Down Tastings and Tapas they needed some help. Neither had owned a business before, and needed guidance with everything from a business plan to 5 year profit/loss projections, to location considerations. So they turned to the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center (NE-ISBDC), hosted by IPFW and its Division of Continuing Studies. The NE-ISBDC provides entrepreneurs like the Skeels with expert guidance and a vast network of resources.

Both the investors and banks needed to see our vision on paper, stated Gary, So Wes, from the NE-ISBDC helped provide us with the necessary communication tools. Wes was very helpful in the planning phase and was there for us whenever we had questions.

The NE-ISBDC has provided guidance in 36 business starts in Northeast Indiana, infusing nearly $10 million into the regional economy in 2014 alone. Fort Wayne in particular has been named a top city to start a business by two online sources.*

The Skeels are happy with their decision to locate Wine Down in Fort Wayne. Kelly stated, The amount of support and encouragement we received proved Northeast Indianas dedication toward providing small businesses the tools they need to succeed.
