Welcome to Gothenburg!

Grouting Symposium 13 NovemberThe 7th Nordic Grouting Symposium will continue the tradition of the Nordic Grouting Symposiums which started in Gothenburg in 1992. Since then it has been held once about every four years in a different Nordic Country, last time was in Helsinki in 2009.

TopicS of The SympoSium are: • Case studies in the Nordic countries• Science and research on materials, prognosis and equipment• Concepts for grouting• Case studies

On behalf Of the Swedish Rock Engineering Research Foundation we would like to invite you to our two-day Nordic Symposiums & Exhibition. The program offers technical oral and poster presentations, a Professional Discussion meeting and a festive Dinner at the Gothenburg City Hall.

professional Discussion The Professional Discussion commences after the final sessions of the Grouting Symposium and the concluding discussion will be held the next day, just before the Rock Mechanics Symposium. All participants of both symposiums are welcome to attend. The Professional Discussion will comprise a short opening lecture, working in groups and a concluding panel discussion.

MoDeRAToR: Dr. Lars Hässler/Golder Associates.Professionals from both the field of grouting and rock mechanics are gathered at the two symposiums. We would therefore like to take the

opportunity to initiate a discussion and elaborate on topics in the interphase of our fields of knowledge. It is not so developed, and needs to be addressed to increase knowledge and understanding.

The drill and blast tunneling method will induce fractures in the adjacent rock material and thus may increase the local permeability and ingress of water. Rock grouting will affect the rock mechanical parameters around an excavated opening during construction as well as after. Do we need to take such considerations into account in our design? These, as well as other questions and thoughts will be addressed at the Professional Discussion.

rock mechanics Symposium 14 NovemberThe initiative to arrange the First Nordic Rock Mechanic Meeting was taken by the Norwegian Rock Mechanic Group, and that meeting was successfully held in Kongsberg, Norway, 2010. At this event the “relay race baton” was accepted by Swedish representatives who are honored to arrange the 2nd Nordic Rock Mechanic Meeting. Hopefully these two meetings will grow to become a tradition of meetings arranged by alternating hosting countries.

TopicS of The SympoSium are: • Use of the underground space in the Nordic countries• Rock support degradation and maintenance• Rock tunnel stability• Case records

DiNNer aT The GoTheNburG ciTy hallOn Tuesday evening November 13, a festive dinner will be served at the Gothenburg City Hall, where Lord Mayor Ms. Lena Malm will welcome all guests and symposium delegates. Dinner is included in the registration fee.
