Laureen Teskey Harper is the wife of Stephen Harper, the current Prime Minister of Canada. Born in Turner Valley, Alberta, Laureen has a love of photography and graphics. She started her own business in Calgary in 1989 and continued it until 2002. She moved to Ottawa after her husband was elected Leader of the Official Opposition in March 2002.
Laureen's volunteer efforts involve computer work for Rockcliffe Elementary School's annual book sale and the local library. She also offers her home to the Ottawa SPCA as a foster home for kittens. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her motorcycle, newly purchased this past fall. She and Stephen have two children, Ben (born 1996) and Rachel (born 1999).
Jean Paré grew up with an understanding that family, friends and home cooking are the key ingredients for a good life. For 18 years, she operated a successful catering business from her home kitchen in Vermilion, Alberta. Steadily increasing demand for her recipes led to the founding of Company’s Coming Publishing Limited in 1981.
The first Company’s Coming cookbook, 150 Delicious Squares, was an immediate bestseller. A familiar and trusted name in the kitchen, Company’s Coming has extended its reach throughout the home with other types of books and products for everyday living and Jean Paré is now one of North America’s best-loved cookbook authors. The recipient of many awards, Jean was appointed Member of the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest lifetime achievement honour in 2004.
