My tank viewThe graphical inventory overview provides the summary of the latest site or product information at first sight, based on the actual tank shapes. The status information, like “safe stock limit” reached or “resupply of product requested” will further help the user to have a quick overview what actions are required to maintain the inventory. Customized views on selected sites enhance this functionality.

Totaling: Total values easilyGet a quick overview across storage facility by summarizing used, free and total tank capacities as well as related deliveries or disposals. Store your selection as template for easy retrieval. Tanks and aggregated tanks can be included in a calculation.

Monitoring tanks: Viewing tanks and associated information With multiple buyers of your product in many tanks, it can be difficult to distinguish among so much information. SupplyCare application allows you to access information according to your needs. You can drill down to the requested information, like ‘tank group’, ‘buyer’, ‘location’, ‘product’ and ‘status’ in order to see the specific information that you require.The ‘Status’ filter allows you to view and prioritize tanks based on the need for replenishment. Tankvision Tank Scanner is ideally suited for small tank farms but can also be applied in larger distributed systems. It is fully based on web server technology offering andequipped with a full set of tank inventory calculations, and suitable and approved for Weights & Measures applications by NMi and PTB.Tank Scanner can be used as a stand-alone system for small tank farms and/or integrated into a larger system via Tankvision Professional and/or Tankvision Data Concentrator. Tankvision Data Concentrator collects the data of several Tank Scanners, totalizes tank data of several or all tanks and acts as a single point of access to the tanks.Tankvision Professional is a Tank Gauging and inventory management system for small to large-scaled sites and/or operations needing a high degree of customization. Applications range from small authorized distributors through to the largest storage terminals and refineries.

Tankvision Professional visualizes Tank Gauging information both in graphical and numerical displays. Up to 400 tanks are supported (200 in a fully redundant mode).Tank gauges are integrated via hardware interfaces such as Tankvision Tank Scanner, Tankvision Multi Scan or other third-party units. Tank groupTank groups give a comprehensive overview of a user defined selection of tanks. Graphical information indicates the product in the tank and the filling level. Level and temperature are shown with their numerical values. Tabular groups show a wider range of parameters with their numerical values for the selected number of tanks.Both tabular and graphical tank groups indicate alarms and movement directions. Typical examples are product groups, e.g. showing the inventory for all diesel tanks on site.

Tank detailThe tank detail screen gives accurate live information on the inventory in a tank: Amongst other data the tank detail shows how much product is in the tank and how much can be filled. The values are continuously updated to give operators live inventory data for their operations.Besides measured and calculated parameters, like level, volume and mass, the tank detail shows dynamic information, when filling or emptying a tank. Alarms are indicated on the display of the tank where they occur.

MovementsThe movements operation allows the comprehensive planning and safe operation of loading and offloading liquids to and from tanks. Each product movement is planned and monitored under its specific operation conditions, like flow limits and operator filling alarms as well as with automatic movement report generation.The intuitive overview of planned, under operation and concluded movements provides records for keeping track of the terminal and tank movements.

Alarms and eventsAlarms and events are displayed on the ‘Alarm Event Viewer’ screen. An alarm horn icon is displayed on the tank within the ‘Tank View’ window and an audible signal is generated if enabled. The alarm status description within the ‘Grid View’ and ‘Single Tank Overview’ changes to show the highest priority alarm. The details of active alarms can be determined by the ‘Alarm Summary Display’. Alarms are silenced when they are acknowledged, the date and time is logged in the database. An alarm history view can be used to look at all occurred alarms and events.

Custom pagesTankvision Professional allow the user to design pages to enhance the customization of level views. It is possible to use basic graphical objects for on/off supervisory control (through plc), such as agitators, pumps and valves. Visualization can be configured to show changes in color or pictures when the status changes. Custom screens can include, short cuts, fixed text, active object or additional I/O values.

Installed base protocol management Based on the increasing needs of productivity and site capacities it happens that sites evolve quite quickly and with many differing suppliers and solutions. This can certainly take its toll on both the maintenance budgets as well as the wide knowledge needed to keep things going. When a complete overhaul is not possible then a step by step approach is the only option. For many years Tank Gauging companies have used proprietary protocols due the extended length and special data information (bi-directional). We are a supporter of using open protocols like:• Modbus for distances of around 1km• V1 for distances beyond 1km. With the continued need for these protocols we particularly consider how migration can be managed without losing the existing installed base but allow progression into an easier maintainable and flexible site architecture.The integration of 3rd party protocols is also possible:• TRL2 – Emerson Saab• BPM – Honeywell Enraf• Mark/Space – Varec• others

How to move on ...Once data is retrieved from the tanks then the data should have the option to pass on to areas of the business which can also gain from this information, such as ERP Systems (Enterprise Resource Planning). This inventory information can be used to plan better deliveries of materials or even reduce the under-utilized stocks. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) can help to extract the information from available data utilizing your site expertise and our field experiences together. With KPI dashboards we can prepare an easy and useful method of displaying the knowledge to help you in your daily business decisions.

Integration into PLC/DCS systemsTankvision provides host communication from every component. Loading and off-loadingThe system can interface to most types of loading computers. The loading process can be configured to follow a sequence customized to each site. Loads can be pre-authorized and entered into the system ahead of the driver/truck arriving at the terminal. In this case, the quantity and product for each truck compartment are entered into the system under a unique load/order number. On arrival at the site, the driver can select the order to be taken and all of the load details are downloaded to the loading computers to enable loading. This method reduces the burden on the driver and reduces the risk of loading incorrect quantities/products into the wrong compartments. Alternatively, loads can be created and authorized on demand by terminal operators as a truck/driver arrives at the site. A full log of all loading transactions is maintained by the automation system.

Truck and railcar loading metering skidsWhen considering truck or railcar loading for custody transfer, certified metering skids are often the best option. Endress+Hauser has the experience of hundreds of truckloading applications around the world based on our world-renowned Promass mass flowmeter.

In comparison to mechanical PD meters, our Promass offers a direct mass output. Due to simultaneous density and temperature output, we are additionally able to give avolume output at the same time. That means the solution is open for the future as the trend clearly will go from volume to mass billing for light hydrocarbons (e.g. as already in place for LPG).

In our Endress+Hauser Center of Competence (CoC) for Oil & Gas, we have designed standardized Loading Metering Skids (LMS) for truck and railcar loading applications including batch controller, start/stop valves and grounding system. You have the choice of horizontal or vertical installation and the use of optional air eliminator. The solution will come automatically with the European MID approval (no onsite verification required). Endress+Hauser offers terminal management by utilizing Terminalvision which is a Windows-based total terminal management system designed to handle all of the requirements of road, rail and barge loading depots and terminals. It is also an open system designed to interface most vendor devices used for access control, rack loading computers and weighbridges. The system has been designed totally configurable so that it can accommodate different workflow procedures, for example whether access control is present or not, whether PIN entry is required or not, the sequence of steps to complete a load, etc. Loading control and authorization can be handled at the loading computer or by the automation server depending on customer requirements.

The transfer of products not only needs reliable measurements but also a correctly designed and implemented control system. Following detailed discussions with your plant engineers and operators, a functional design specification is produced that forms the basis of the system. A PLC-based control system is implemented allowing for the integration of many pumps, valves and interlocks.A supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system using customized graphical display screens provides the control interface along with alarming, reporting and archiving of data for all aspects of the transfer process. The programmable nature of the system enables additions or changes to be implemented at any time.Being fully supported by Endress+Hauser’s highly trained application and project engineers, your tank farm control system will provide safe and efficient product transfer while meeting local and international safety, quality and operational standards.

Operational managementAll transactions and audit trail records are stored in the Terminalvision (SQL) server database. The system incorporates a number of simple statistical tools that can be used for analyzing records and forecasting parameters so that users can optimize the scheduling of receipts to replenish stocks.

Blending and additive injectionBlending and additive management is commonplace today and should be managed for different blending and additive strategies required for different companies. Blending and additives can be managed in several ways depending on the functionality of loading computers. If the loading computer supports additive and blending, the data is downloaded to the loading computer along with loading details which then takes care of everything else.

Site supervisionThe operator can view all actions in the terminal, e.g. who is loading which truck in which loading bay or is my terminal reconciling correctly. With individual user logins and passwords, each operator or supervisor is able to access information according to their role in the organization.

Loading statusThe truck loading screen allows the operator to monitor the status and quantities of each truck within a loading bay. Values include actual quantities loaded, planned and flow rate as well as having a graphical indication bargraph for each compartment.

Site data managementThe data is centrally managed for drivers, trucks, customers, distributors, etc. This is data used for maintenance of status of individuals, safety status or commercial management. Some data is used for permissions related to specific loading and offloading. Up to 1000+ drivers and trucks can be entered into the database to enable plenty of use for the day-to-day expansion.

Inventory planningWith the terminals often being in continuous use, the need for inventory status is paramount. Additionally, there is of course a need to plan the replenishment of the tanks. Therefore, the planning screens of SupplyCare are critical for the ongoing performance of the terminal.

KPI dashboardThe Key Performance Indicator dashboard offers the opportunity to collect and analyze data in a more business orientated manner. This gives the user the option to combine KPIs for measures such as: How many times a tank has been filled and emptied. This information indicates whether the product in the tanks is being sold enough.

These guidelines have been published to help operators and designers of fuel storage and distribution facilities to increase their safety coverage. All of these reports indicate a common thread. When monitoring storage tanks containing either hazardous or flammable products, design and maintenance should consider the damage which could be caused to the environment, facilities or people by “overfilling”.

This consideration carries the responsibility of providing protection by the most appropriate means. The key to this is a design based on a reliable primary level and overfill monitoring of tank inlets. When selecting the level and overfill monitoring devices, the guidelines drive the choice to “diverse“ measurement to remove the change of any systematic error. Furthermore, the “primary level” and “overfill prevention” devices should be electrically and mechanically separated.
