Indian Nanoelectroncis Users Program (INUP), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, along with National

Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN), USA announces dates for the INUP familiarization

    workshop-IWSG 2011 from January 3rd to 8th 2011. The INUP (http://www.inup.org.in,

http://www.nano.iisc.ernet.in/inup/home.html), which is funded by the Dept of Information Technology

(DIT), the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Govt. of India, supports the

needs of Indian researchers in the area of nanoscale device fabrication and characterization. The National

Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) is an integrated networked partnership of user facilities,

supported by the National Science Foundation, serving the needs of nanoscale science, engineering and

technology in the US. For more detailed information about NNIN, please visit the following link

    http://www.nnin.org.

The international Winter Schools for Graduate Students (iWSG) are organized jointly by NNIN and

institutions in other countries with the goal of (a) educating at graduate level in an essential or emerging

direction tied to research in nanoscale science and engineering and (b) promoting international bridge

building and understanding by bringing together students and faculty from two nations in an intense

teaching and societal experience. This program will provide an intense academic experience in an

international environment (USA & India), coupled with sharing of technology implementation experience in

the broader societal context of nanotechnology.

Several faculty members and students from across the USA will participate in this programme.Program Co-ordinators: Prof S.A. Shivashankar (IISc, Bangalore, India)

Prof Sandeep Tiwari (Cornell Univ., USA)

    Applications are invited online.

    Familiarization Workshops by INUP

In order to introduce potential users to the facilities set up at IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay, a series of ten

workshops are planned at these locations over the next four years. These workshops are organized jointly by

IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay with financial support from Ministry of Communication and Information

Technology (MCIT), Govt. of India. This will be the third such event to be held at IISc Bangalore. Attendancein one of these familiarization workshops is required for further interactions/collaborations under INUP.

    Course Contents

The course will contain various aspects of Nanofabrication Technologies. Special emphasis will be placed on

the facilities available at IISc under INUP for use by external users, and avenues for utilizing these.

    Course Organization

This course consists of classroom lectures only. However, promising participants will be invited for future

programs of INUP including hands-on training workshops and/or collaborative research opportunities. It isrecommended that all potential beneficiaries of INUP at IISc attend this workshop.

Faculty and staff from IISc, IIT-B and United States will deliver the lectures.

    Eligibility

The course is meant for the academic faculty of recognized Universities and engineering colleges,

Postgraduate students and research scholars working in the areas of Nanoelectronics, microsystems, smart

materials technologies, and related areas only. Selected participants will be paid TA at actuals, subject to the

limit of Three-tier AC train/bus (for students) and Two-tier AC train/bus (for faculty) fare by the shortest

route from the place of work to Bangalore and back. They will be provided with accommodation subject to

    availability.

Short-listing of participants will be made based on their expressed interest in participating in future

programmes organized by INUP and/or based on their current research interests. Registration requests

without a Statement of Purpose will not be considered. Undergraduate students are not eligible to attend

    this workshop.

Additional seats may be available for self-supported participants from government and private R&D

Organizations, Industries, and others interested in this course. No travel support will be provided to these

    participants.
