HOLY COMMUNION We invite actively practicing Catholics who are properly disposed to come forward to receive Holy Communion. Our brothers and sisters of other faiths are invited to approach with arms crossed over the chest to receive a blessing. At Holy Family we receive the combination of the Body and Blood of Christ on the tongue. If you prefer to receive just the Body of Christ in your hand, please have your hands clearly out before you approach. COMMUNION ANTIPHON Gregorian chant, mode VIII Domine, memorabor iustitiæ tuæ solius: Deus, docuisti me a iuventute mea, et usque in senectam et senium, Deus, ne derelinquas me. O Lord, I will be mindful of your justice alone; you have taught me, O God, from my youth; and so, unto old age and grey hairs, O God, forsake me not. The Care Fund meets the emergency needs of Holy Family parishioners and the wider community. CLOSING HYMN Saint Michael Hymnal 573 I Know That My Redeemer Lives Following the closing hymn, together we pray a “Hail Mary” for the next parishioner to be called home to the Lord. In light of the current crisis in the Church, we also pray the “St. Michael Prayer” as found on pg. 1085 of the red Lumen Christi Missal.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Grateful Hearts – Forward in Faith

Just as summer vacation is transitioning back to school, so our campaign is starting to transition into the exciting phase of designing the new facility! That does NOT mean that we have stopped raising funds! We are most definitely still looking for others to help us. Construction costs in Minnesota have risen significantly over the past three years and so we definitely need to keep pushing ahead to our stretch goal of $5 million.

If you have already made the most sacrificial pledge you can make, then please keep praying for others to do the same. If you haven’t, then please keep discerning how the Lord is calling you to participate. Now is the time to show gratitude for all our blessings and to do something significant and lasting for our community!

I recently met with our city council member as well as a representative of our neighborhood association. We had a great conversation about the planning process and I assured them of our desire to be a good citizen and a good neighbor! I also met with our construction committee which has been working overtime to get us on a schedule where we could hopefully start construction late spring or early summer of 2020. We have already selected an architect and hope to hire the construction firm within the next week or so. Prayers appreciated for this process as well!

W D M N Dear Holy Family Parishioners,

My name is Deacon Michael Nevin, and I am blessed to be newly assigned by Archbishop Hebda to serve the parish of Holy Family effective September 1st. I am grateful to Fr. Johnson, the clergy, staff and parishioners for the kindness you have welcomed me with.

Following my ordination in 2010, I served the parish of Mary Queen of Peace in Rogers for two years and was assigned to the parishes of Sts. Peter and Paul in Loretto and St. Thomas the Apostle for the last six years. Along with my parish assignment, I have served the Institute of Diaconate Formation at the St. Paul Seminary as a Dean of Students, been a member of the Archbishop’s Deacon Council, and currently assist in the Office of Worship at the Chancery where I serve as a Master of Ceremonies for the Archbishop. I also work full-time as the Director of Pastoral Care for The Glenn Catholic Community in Minnetonka, where I serve seniors as their chaplain.

I live in St. Michael and have been married to my wife Karen for 27 years, and we have two adult sons. I enjoy hunting and fishing and our local sports teams but my true passion is for God, especially expressed in the liturgical Rites of our beautiful Catholic faith. I have been most impressed with the dignity and joy that the parish of Holy Family worships God and I hope that my service may draw us even closer to Him. I promise that I shall pray for you all, and I ask for your prayers as I begin this new ministry.

I look forward to getting to know you all, so please say hello. In Christ through Mary, Deacon Michael Nevin

D ’ D C Written 700 years ago, Dante’s Divine Comedy remains one of the greatest works of Catholic literature of all time. Most importantly, it is a spiritual autobiography of a lost man,

a troubled soul, in need of rescue. As an imaginative approach to faith, the Comedy has the ability even today to help us toward spiritual growth. This guided tour through the Divine Comedy by Dr. Mary Reichardt (Univ. of St. Thomas) will include: an introduction to the entire work and Inferno 1-5 (Sept. 21); Inferno 6-34 (October 26); Purgatorio (Nov. 16); and Paradiso (Dec. 14). A text of the complete Comedy, translated by Mark Musa, will be provided for each registrant. Meet in Fr. Moorman Hall the listed Saturdays from 9-11 AM. Registration fee is $20 and includes books. Register and pay at www.hfcmn.org/pay-divine-comedy by Thursday, Sept. 12th.

Students at Holy Family Academy (HFA) receive their preparation as part of the 2nd grade curriculum. For all other children in our parish, we provide comprehensive sacramental preparation through our Wednesday evening religious education program. There will be a mandatory parent-only meeting Weds. Sept. 11 at 6:30PM in Kattar Hall. For more information contact John Hartnett at 952.999.4822 or [email protected] or go to www.hfcmn.org/sacramental-preparation.

C P T Confirmation preparation at Holy Family is a one-year program of preparation for high school students desiring to deepen their prayer lives and to better understand and defend a variety of issues related to our Catholic Faith. There will be a mandatory parent-only meeting Weds. Sept. 11 at 7:15PM in Kattar Hall and all parents need to meet with staff for an interview to discuss the importance of this sacrament. Our first class begins Weds. Sept. 25! For more information and to register go to www.hfcmn.org/confirmation or contact Elizabeth Brown at [email protected]. We are excited to see you there!

Currently, the times of our greatest need are: Mondays 1-2 PM Tuesdays 8:30-10 AM Wednesdays 11-Noon, 3-4 PM, 4-5 PM Thursdays Noon-1PM and 1-2 PM Fridays 1-2 PM, 3-4 PM and 8-9 PM Saturdays 10-11 AM

We urgently need adorers to fill the times in red.
