REEEP was established to accelerate RE/EE focusing on underdeveloped and emerging economies

REEEP acts as a market facilitator by reducing market barriers for renewables and energy efficiency systems through focus on:

policy/regulation development and improvement finance and business models

REEEP is driven by a bottom-up approach to meet the real needs on the ground

REEEP works with governments as well as with the private sector

REEEP is committed to the achievement of MDGs and aims to improve access to sustainable clean energy for the poor

REEEP is unique in combining the benefit of renewables and energy efficiency

REEEP project activities are the partnership’s core business

All projects aim to support REEEP’s mission – accelerating the uptake

of renewable energy and energy efficiency contribute to two major objectives

reduce greenhouse gas emissions improve access to clean energy for poor

geographically focus on “plus five” countries and selected LDCs

concentrate on the two types targeted actions which can deliver highest impact and replication assisting with establishing legal and regulatory

frameworks developing innovative finance and business

models to make RE and EE a bankable proposition

emphasize impacts and outputs which can be replicated

be amplified by REEEP services and strategic actions

WHAT is reegle?

reegle is a one stop shop search engine for information about renewable energy & energy

efficiency including:

• Laws and regulations

• News and announcements

• Political declarations and discussion papers

• Project, activity and financial reports

• Statistical data

• Studies, manuals and reports

Page 15: Introduction to REEEP and reegle

reegle – the information gateway for renewable energy and energy efficiency is an unrivaled tool to find information on RE

and EE related topics.

reegle’s unique position as THE clean energy search engine stems from a number of key areas:

• covers high-quality sources which are reviewed by internal experts

• features an intelligent search mechanism to broaden/narrow the scope of the search

• presents the latest news and events (including a frequently updated Blog)

• connects stakeholders by providing organisation details via the reegle actors search

• provides all information via a map-based application

What makes reegle so important ...

Page 16: Introduction to REEEP and reegle

The reegle team has evaluated the most important internet sources of

the sector. These sources are constantly extended and updated.

Specific Knowledge Partnerships have been established, with key information

providers like Worldbank, UNIDO, IEA, ...

reegle has it’s own unique database. Special information such as conference papers,

documents, articles and information about organisations are saved here.

reegle in Focus: Detailed Information

Page 17: Introduction to REEEP and reegle

Internet Sources (websites, databases, blogs, ...) have to fulfil the following criteria to be added to

reegle:

• High quality information,

• related to

• renewable energy

• energy efficiency

• climate change

• available in English, French or Spanish

Sources are added by:

• REEEP and REN21 experts

• reegle users after review by our experts (“suggest source”)

REEEP is constantly working on further system enhancements and refinements to ensure the highest quality in search results and increase the outreach of reegle

Two of the most important projects were:

1. The reegle maps project:The scope of the reegle maps project was to provide information about actors, news and

events, projects as well as country profiles to the reegle user via a map based application.

Funded by Germany (BMU)

2. reegle redesign:As the reegle design was some years old and

web based technology has significantly evolved in recent years, REEEP introduced a brand-new reegle design including several new features in

early 2009.

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP)

is a Public-Private Partnership launched at the Johannesburg World

Summit in 2002. The REEEP aims to accelerate the global marketplace

for energy ef.ciency and renewable energy by actively facilitating

financing mechanisms for sustainable energy projects and structuring

policy initiatives for clean energy markets on the ground.

www.reeep.org

reegle is a joint project of REEEP and REN21.

It is supported by:

• the British Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra)

• the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany (BMU)

• the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (MINVROM)

• the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (Lebensministerium)

Partners

The Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21)

Is a global policy network aimed at providing a forum for international

leadership on renewable energy. Its goal is to allow the rapid expansion

of renewable energies in developing and industrial countries by

bolstering policy development and decision-making on sub-national,

national and international levels.

“Project finance is entirely dependent on a detailed understanding of the market conditions within the relevant

country. reegle provides a comprehensive overview of these parameters including law and regulations, up-to-date political

standpoints, statistical data and best practice guidelines within the area, helpingto guide and inform the decision-

making process.”

Debashish Majumdar

Chairman & Managing Director of Indian

Renewable Development Agency Limited

“The reegle Actors Catalogue is an invaluable source for facilitating networking and collaboration within the clean-energy field and for helping to promote project development through bringing together interested parties from government agencies to

manufacturers.”

Whang Zhongying

Director Center of Renewable

Energy Development, China

“Fundamental to the acceleration of the clean-energy marketplace, is the need to provide interested stakeholders, in particular potential investors, with fast access to high quality information. Reegle, the information gateway for renewable

energy and energy efficiency, provides the means to link and disseminate knowledge, helping to determine market potential

and facilitating global investment forecast.”
