The type of music a person listens too can be seen through the way they dress, speak, act and the type of surroundings they decide to put themselves in. - Music is set at the centre of our culture. We listen to it on the way to school, work, journeys etc. We can never deny that the Music Industry is a huge part of any one persons life. - Music can shape a persons identity. We could make judgement on what type of personality a person has just by looking through their mp3 or I pod.

A music video is only one part of a sometimes global

multimedia campaign to promote an artist. It is done to promote the artist in a more personal and visual way.

The general idea of the music industries is the contributing and sometimes, conflicting forces behind music/media creation.

The Major’s.

Majors are more often know for their size and usually own their own or licence, supplementary line of companies. This is down to reach a greater variety of audience member and to appeal to more genres.

These are known as ‘Major- independents’.

Independent’s

Independents are usually small independent record labels that have no financial connections to the Major’s at all.

They appeal to more niche audiences and take on a smaller amount of artist and are made sure they keep their organic look.

Majors and independents are very similar in the way they that they produce music but are very different in the way they promote it.

The Music Industry

The Music industry is not just generated and fuelled by

the major’s you will always find a great selection of people who are interested in both. The industry in dominated my music not separate major’s or independents.

Having the two, allows smaller companies to branch out in to bigger markets and the bigger to use smaller new artists and movements in popular music.

Purpose?

Music video’s are done for several specific reason’s. These are:-

Promotes and Artist/Band. Presents an Artist/Bands Star Image. Back-ups the meaning of the song and reinforces lyrics. Promotes a single, for an album. Lastly is mostly done for the entertainment of the audience it is

appealing too.
