Why Celebrate LGBT History Month?
LGBT History Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual
and trans people It also gives us all a chance to:
Acknowledge, Respect and Remember
the contributions of LGBT people to everyday society and world history
http://lgbthistorymonth.org.uk
Equality Act 2010 in school
Respect each other’s age, disabilities, gender, race, religion,
gender identity and sexual orientation.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES - INCLUSION – HUMAN RIGHTS Our school welcomes everyone from all walks of life. Everyone must
welcome and celebrate all others in our school.
Age Disability Gender
Race and nationality Religion or belief
PregnancyMarriage
Transgender identity Sexual orientation
Remember:
You don’t have to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans to acknowledge the work and
contribution of LGBT people throughout history
Think about it:Do you have to be a Woman to
acknowledge ‘International Women's Day?’
Compare with other celebrations in your school

developing breasts Turing took his life by eating an apple laced
with potassium cyanide. The logo for Apple Mac
computers has been linked to Turing as a
lasting memory.
• The modern-day LGBT community and culture started, like many other communities, as a result of the demand for civil rights.
• The Stonewall Inn was the scene of five nights of rebellion against the New York Police in protest at their harassment of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people who went there, and LGBT people in general.
1969 Stonewall Riots
1970 This led to a higher visibility of LGBT people and ignited the demands for equal rights and a global, overall
LGBT culture and community was founded

It is only ignorance that causes homophobia and transphobia, once educated attitudes do change.
If we can create discrimination in 5 minutes then we can eradicate it in 5 minutes
It is over to you to change opinions and change lives

discrimination from our schools
