What is Google Classroom? Google worked with educators across the country to create Classroom. It is a

streamlined, easy-to-use tool that helps teachers manage coursework. With

Classroom educators can create classes, distribute assignments, grade and send

feedback, and see everything in one place. Why use Google Classroom in PE?

Unlike a typical classroom, a physical education class faces different adversaries

when trying to implement desk-top work. Bigger class sizes, various weather

conditions, and no desktop seating should not deter you from implementing

assignments to enhance student learning. Google Classroom provides flexibility and

offers you a platform with everything your non-traditional class may need!

What is Google Form?

Google Form is a web-based app used to create forms for data collection purposes.

Students and teachers can use Google Forms to make surveys or quizzes.

The app provides you with options to use various question types to fit exactly what

you may need. Not only is it a simple to use program to make surveys and quizzes, the

app also collects and compiles your data for you.

Why use Google Form in PE?

With such a large number of students in each physical education class, assessing

students the old fashion way of pen and paper can be quite a challenge. With Google

Form, you’re able to collect all your student’s work with just a click of a button.

Google form is able to collect any student assessment you may have all in one space

where you are able to quickly assess student learning and progress.

various ways depending on your question

format.

These are three examples on how data is

collected for you – Bar graph, pie graph

and short responses.

Depending on your question format, Google

provides a fast, easy and accessible way to see

responses.

Along with having your data broken up into

summaries, you can also download all quiz

responses in Sheets.

flexibility to manipulate all responses

Creating a Spreadsheet

One of Google Form’s best feature is its ability to collect all data collected and provide it on an

Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is organized with all of your questions at the top and the

columns provide the users’ responses to each question. If you choose the quiz option, it also

grades it for you and gives you an instant score!

This data collection form can be very beneficial for your physical education class. Students can log their

fitness scores and you can instantly sort by category. You can also color code scores to identify students

that are not meeting the standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I link my Google Classroom to Aeries? o Not YET – Currently some teachers in the district are piloting a Google

Classroom to Aeries gradebook. You may see the option available, but it is

not accessible for all users at this time.

When I go to Google Classroom, I only have the “Join class” option and

do not have a “Create Class”. o Send in a HelpDesk ticket – You currently do not have access and your

site IT will be able to fix this problem for you.

Between Google Classroom and Canvas, which is the best platform to

use?

o This is just a personal preference – The benefit of Google Classroom is

that all your documents are in one space (e.g. Slides, Documents, Forms,

Photos). It is also user friendly and easily accessible for your students on

Chromebooks.

Tips Google From: Creating Copies

o If you provide the same Form link to all your classes, all responses will merge into

one document (You may end up with 200+ responses!). If you want to split up

responses per class period, make sure to make a copy of the form for each of your

classes.

o Making Folders and differentiating your Classrooms per period will help you be

organized.

Google Forms: Free Response Questions

o Even though Google will grade all your other question types, it is unable to grade

your free response questions. Don’t forget to go back and grade these responses!
