Structural Changes in Demand and Supply of Energy Brought About by Smart Communities

In the past, power companies have supplied the necessary amount of electricity at the same price category when required by consumers. After the disaster, a margin for originality, where demand and supply are adjusted through appeals to consumers (demand response), such as point incentives and flexible power pricing menus by season and by time period, has been generated.

Renewable energy fluctuates and also has strong regionality. In the future, if renewable energy is introduced at 25 to 35% the electricity generated, the supply-demand adjustment function that the supplier side used to be responsible for is now handled by consumers. If the supply-demand wave can be equalized in homes and regions, system loads can be reduced.

Reform from an energy supply structure where energy is supplied in a single direction from large-scale, concentrated power sources to a distributed energy supply-demand structure with supply-demand adjustment based on bidirectional movement of supply and demand.

Supplied from concentrated power sources in accordance with demand

Supply and demand are balanced, based on receiving supply from concentrated power sources and carrying out power generation and consumption in homes and regions based on distributed power sources
