SWGC-REQUEST FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CAREER EXHIBITION 1 INTRODUCTION South West Gauteng College is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college, formerly, FET college, operating under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training. The college has six campuses, spread throughout Soweto (3), Roodepoort (2) and Randburg (1), each with a student complement of over 3000. The college offers education and training programmes in most sectors of the economy, engineering, business and utility studies, covering programmes such as Tourism, Hospitality, Safety in Society, and lately, Primary Agriculture. AIM/ OBJECTIVE As a college, we see ourselves as a possible catalyst to the challenges faced by the communities in which we operate. The college’s mandate includes assisting the youth in the surrounding communities with career related information and guidance so that they can make informed decisions about their future. Uplifting the youth, is a sure way to, overtime, break the spine of poverty, inequality and unemployment. This exhibition will be an opportunity for young and old to obtain information on current and future careers. PARTNERED WITH AND SOPPORTED BY: The college has partnered with JMPD that will bring together different departments within the City of Joburg and show-case the work they do and career prospects to the students and learners from schools and the community at large. There will also be information safety and healthy living. The campaign is supported by the City of Joburg, the Liquor board, Department of Economic Development and several other partners. VENUE Soweto, like most South African townships, has economic pressures, with many of its people not informed about career choices available in different areas of the economy, hence the choice of George Tabor Campus, 1440 Mncube Drive, Dube Village, Soweto to host this campaign. We saw it fit to have this event at this campus, as we are offering “Safety in Society” NC (V Level 2 - 4 and us partnering with JMPD meant that our students and the community will even be more empowered. The Expo will be held on 12 April 2019.

TARGET MARKET

The target market will be N6 and NC(V) Level 4 students and Grade 12 learners from surrounding schools. We are anticipating the overall number of attendees in the region of 4000.
