use of natural waters, rainwater collection and re-use,

green roofs.

Page 32: Introducing AKKO Sept 2011

Looking to the FutureIn order to reduce overall environmental impact,Roofing materials will be thinner and lighter – bringingnew challenges for durabilityIn order to facilitate recycling, roofs will be designed

with eventual removal in mindIn order to maximize service life, roof maintenance

programswill become more sophisticatedThe primary concern of the building owner in regard toroofing materials will continue to be durability

The world population is growing, resources are becoming increasingly scarce and energy consumption is rising.

The emissions associated with these trends contribute to the obvious consequences of climatic change.

Saving energy is a must – not only in the transport, production and agricultural sectors, but also in buildings because these also contribute to climate change.

Of immediate importance are energy consumption and CO2 emissions. According to the German Energy Agency (dena), around 40 percent of the energy consumption is attributable to buildings.

Measures are needed to stem energy consumption and hence, the build-up of CO2.
