J.D. I - Introduction to Law

Why I want to be a lawyer?

As a child, I had dreamt of having a successful job and to be rich. I also wanted to

become a doctor, but I had felt that such a career was beyond my grasp. As time passed by and I

grew old, our dreams changed. When I entered high school, I wanted to be an engineer just like

my brother. After my high school I took up Accountancy on a whim. And then my mother

pursue me to took Nursing during the time it was on demand abroad. During nursing, the subject

Health Ethics and Politics and Governance with Philippine Constitution are very challenging but

I enjoyed studying it. My marks with these subjects will prove it.

I started working as a nurse and have a family of three children. Although I felt proud of

my professional success, I still realized that I was not living up to my potential. As a nurse I can

say that this job was so hard and the compensation was unfair. I realized that I really don’t enjoy

my work and I like to have a well compensated job. I am thinking of taking up another course

until a friend of mine invites me to take up law with her. At first I am doubtful but now I am

determined to be a lawyer.

The main reason why I want to become a lawyer is because they are highly paid than

being a nurse. I want to give the best to my family and I can achieve it if I become a successful

lawyer. I know that I am taking a difficult course, one that will require a lot of hard work and

passion. I am determined to get rid of all my bad study habits during my college. Just getting a

passing mark was enough for me before but now, I want to get the highest possible grades and in

order to do this I must work hard. My tenacity, perseverance, and inner strength make me look

forward to arming myself with a J.D.

My dream of becoming a successful lawyer does push me to study harder. I will do my

best in my studies in order to achieve this. Law School will be a long 4 years but I know that I

have the will and determination strong enough to achieve my goals.
