Intra-Team Wireless IntercomFull Duplex, Hands-Free, Level A/B PPE Intercom

DWIS enhances the safety and effectiveness of forward area team members, with special focus on:

• Operations requiring MOPP-2 through Level “A” PPE• Interoperability with other radio platforms

The digital, multi-user duplex (TDMA) design permits simultaneous (duplex) transmission by multiple users…no delays for transmission of warnings or critical information and no reaching inside a suit to “key” a radio or fiddle with a VOX. Virtual hands-free, ‘hot microphone” communications can be selected for mission planning, and/or incident response between the OIC, safety officer, Decon officer, primary entry team, back-up entry team.

DWIS permits all portable radio users to talk and listen at the same time. All personnel with DWIS portable radio hears the voices of all other members and can speak without waiting for others to finish speaking.

No push-to-talk button is required and no voice-activated switch is used. Each individual with a portable radio hears his own voice in his headset as he speaks. This provides the user with continuous verification of radio system’s operation (side tone). Adding a voice projection unit to the portable radio permits instructions to be clearly heard by patients and walking injured through SCBA or mechanical respirator.

Portable radio users maintain an operating range of 300 meters for each team member from portable repeater (600 meters between team members).

Based on over 28 years designing In-Suit communications for Chem-Bio operations.

DWIS can stand alone as an intra-squad communications or it can be linked to a long range radio, satellite phone, or aircraft/vehicle intercom, permitting members of a survey or medical team to operate inside an aircraft, outside an aircraft or both.

The portable radios are configured in a rugged, lightweight, nylon housing that can be worn as an underarm “holster” or around the waist as a “belt.” These radios are powered by eight, “AA” batteries and will provide a minimum six hour duty cycle; up to 10 hours when powered by a lithium ion pack.

DWIS utilizes TDMA technology (“time slots”) that are synchronized by the DWIS repeater. The frequency agile, 2.4gHz spread spectrum design provides wireless, non-interfering, communications for multiple teams in close proximity.

DWIS is designed with intrinsically safe electronics and classified HERO-Safe by the U.S.A.F and Army. MCEB J-12 No. 7462/1, (host nation operation approvals in-place).
