5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Happy New Year!The hospitality industry will be

ringing in the New Year and making some new resolutions for 2015.

Moving up in the ranks, getting more tips, and making their customers happy are just some of the resolutions for In The Biz® employees. The hospitality industry will also see some big changes coming up in the New Year with new bars opening and different concepts.

The Tilted Kilt recently opened in downtown Fort Lauderdale and bar-tender John Baker believes the opening of the new bar is giving a rebirth to the local hospitality industry.

“The hospitality industry will be reborn. The Tilted Kilt has brought more jobs to downtown and a new vibe to downtown Fort Lauderdale,” said Baker, who has been In The Biz® for five years, “When cus-tomers come in, I want them to feel like part of the family. I get to know people for who they are and not just as a customer.”

Baker’s New Year’s resolutions are “to finish paramedic school and to continue treating people the same way I want to be treated and holding myself to the highest standard.”

Mark Crosby, currently a food runner at Bamboo Beach Club and Tiki Bar in the Ocean Manor Hotel, has made a resolu-tion to move up in the industry. “I love the industry; it’s fast paced. I see many positive changes coming for myself, includ-ing becoming a server and then maybe bartending.”

Crosby says he likes to make little resolutions throughout the year not just on New Years.

“I don’t wait for New Years to make my resolutions. I am already doing it. I do whatever I can to become a good worker and I always lend a hand to everybody who needs it.”

While Tiffini Vincent, a waitress at Fire Dog BBQ & Brew, says her New Year’s resolution for ITB® is “for more people to know about Fire Dog BBQ & Brew because we are new. We are the only country bar that’s a nightclub and restaurant owned by firefighters; and it’s family friendly!” She also sees some new changes for the hospitality industry in 2015. “There are a lot of different and a variety of places opening up, and a lot of new ideas coming out.” Vincent also looks forward to a new year with beauty school graduation and being a new mother.

For this year’s New Year’s resolution, Rachel Stricklin, a bartender at The Tilted Kilt, wants to buy a house in the Miami Art District. She also hopes to move up in the ranks and become a manager one day. “But right now I’m happy bartending. In South Florida, there is a constant flow of customers because of the tourism and the weather is gorgeous!”

While Regina Sfameni, a bartender at Hott Leggz, isn’t making a New Year’s resolution this year. “Everyone makes resolutions but they do not stick to them after a month or two, so I don’t want to make them. If my life needs a change, I will make them!”

Whatever your New Year’s Resolution is, In The Biz® Magazine wishes its readers and the hospitality industry a wonderful New Year!

What is your ethnicity? My father is half spanish and half lebonese and my mother is half Brazillian and half White, so i guess that makes me a Heinz 57 or just caucasian lol

Where are you from? Hollywood, Florida

Where do you work? i work at Triple B Bar and Grill

What made you start working inTheBiz®? i was born inTheBiz®, My aunts and uncles have been in the bar business since before i was born but i just recently ventured off on my own and found a home working as a bartender at Triple B.

What do like best about Bartending? What i like best about bartending is that i work at night so i can spend my days with my 7 month old baby boy Jayce Harvey Daher… yet being able to frolic with all the people that come in from all different walks of life is pretty awesome too and I absolutely love the fast paced environment.

What is the worst pick up line you have heard? i don’t know about the worst pick up line i ever heard is but l have heard this line From Johnny Bravo: “Say baby. You’re pretty. I’m pretty. Whatya say we go back to my place and stare at each other for a while.” enough to make me want to scream when they say it! lol it was actually pretty funny the first few thousand times lol

What is your favorite Drink? My go to drink is grape vodka and Redbull although im not much of a drinker these days :)

What is the most ordered drink at your bar these days? I find myself making Maddress’ and rum and coke an awful lot and lately when it comes to shots i think its safe to say its between Fireball whiskey and Jaeger bombs.

What is the craziest thing you have seen happen at the bar? i have seen a lot of crazy things in the bar scene so we wont go there, but i think the best was watching an older couple probably in their 80’s arguing and the old man using his fanny pack to protect himself from his wifes blows clearly directed at him and with a cane! nobody was seriously injured and this is an experience that has definitely stuck with me. hahaha

Tired of always answering to others, Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day) and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) go into business for themselves. After demonstrating the prototype for an invention called the Shower Buddy, the guys attract the attention of Rex Hanson and his father, Bert. Bert invests in the trio’s product, then cancels the order and steals their idea. Now heavily in debt and with no legal recourse, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to kidnap Rex and use the ransom money to pay off their loans. Hobbit fans are in for a treat as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, is in theatres. Having reclaimed Erebor and a vast treasure from the dragon Smaug, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) sacri-fices friendship and honor in his search for the Arkenstone, despite Smaug’s fiery wrath and Bilbo’s (Martin Freeman) desperate attempts to make him see reason. Meanwhile, Sauron sends forth legions of Orcs in a sneak attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As the ultimate fate of Middle Earth hangs in the balance, the races of Men, Elves and Dwarves must decide whether to unite or die.

Cheetahgives back during holiday season

By Nicol JeNkiNsEditor

Cheetah employees know the true mean-ing of the holiday season.

Giving back to those in need this holiday has been at the mission of Cheetah and Rodriguez Charities this year and every year.

Cheetah employees, through Rodriguez Chari-ties, have purchased over 1,000 turkeys to give away and raised tens of thousands of dollars this holiday season for local charities.

A week before Thanksgiving, Rodriguez Charities handed out 1,000 turkeys at Cheetah Hallandale Beach to anyone in the community who couldn’t afford one.

“Every year before Thanksgiving, Rodriguez Charities is honored to give away turkeys to those in need. And each year, hundreds of people are in line around the building to get these turkeys,” said Allyson Price, Marketing Director for Cheetah.

During the month of December, Rodriguez Charities will also be donating $5,000 to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, $5,000 to Broward Children’s Center in Pompano Beach as well as many other donations to local schools and chari-

ties throughout South Florida.

Tens of thousands of dollars was raised this season during the ITB@ Start of Season Party at Cheetah Pompano and the Charity Poker Tourna-ment held at the Mardi Gras Casino.

“Both parties helped us raise money this sea-son for the kids, and the local people in need,” said Price.

Why does Cheetah give back every holiday season?

“The owner of Cheetah South Florida, Joe Rodriguez, is also the founder of Rodriguez Charities and it is his way of giving back to the community,” said Price.

With over $1 million dollars donated since inception, Rodriguez Charities continues to lead the way in community relations. Dedication, teamwork and commitment are the hallmark of the Rodriguez Charities organization. With children’s development, children’s healthcare, veteran assistance and community assistance as our focal point, Rodriguez Charities set the pace for others to follow.

Rodriguez Charities is fortunate to have many volunteers that are dedicated towards making all our charity events super successful. Whether it’s a Charity Golf Event, Charity Bike Rally or Charity Poker Event, their team gives 110%. This com-

mitment by their volunteers allows Rodriguez Charities to donate an astonishing 100% of all net proceeds.

“The Rodriguez Charities has a great name here in South Florida and a great reputation because they have been doing this for so many years. Everyone knows us now, and we keep doing it because there are a lot of people who need help out there. We get a lot of requests and try to help everyone if we can,” added Price.

Each Cheetah location also has a box at their front doors for a toy collection. Anyone can drop off an unwrapped toy for a boy or girl. The toys will be donated to various charities, including Broward Children’s Center and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

“We have a great team here at Cheetah South Florida that helps us raise the money and want to help as many people as we can during the holidays,” said Price.

Cheetah urges everyone to donate a toy this December to make a child’s holiday that much brighter.

cheetah Pompano is located at 497 NW 31st Ave, Pompano Beach, Fl 33069. For more information, call (954) 971-2600. Cheetah Hal-landale is located at 100 Ansin Blvd, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009. Call (954) 455-2131.

stop in ‘Triple B Bar and Grill’ for karaoke and wings and stay for the new friends BY NICOL JENKINSEditor

At Triple B Bar and Grill, every day is Happy Hour!

Their motto is in fact just that: ‘Every day is a fun day at Triple B Bar and Grill’.

Similar to a “Cheers” bar where “everybody knows your name”, Triple B Bar and Grill is your neighborhood bar that serves up lots of friendly service, fun, your favorite sports teams on the big screen, amazing food and much more!

Its name, Triple B Bar and Grill, actually stands for Beer, Boobs and Burgers… and now Booze has been added to the local sports bar and restaurant.

“We are a sports bar with great food,” said Jeremy Crowell, one of the owners of Triple B Bar and Grill.

Recently opened, Triple B Bar and Grill owners Jeremy Crowell, Michelle Leeper and Kevin Cari-cato wanted to open a neighborhood bar with food. They have over 40 years of experience in the hospitality industry and own other bars in South Florida.

“The atmosphere at Triple B Bar and Grill is kind of like Cheers. Everybody knows every-body,” said Crowell.

On any given night, you can find a great special, entertainment, party and more. There is something for everyone! On Monday, it’s 50 cent wings all day! Tuesdays from 11 am to 5 pm are $1.25 cheeseburger sliders; and

$3 1/2 lb burgers from 5 pm to 8 pm. Wednesdays are Ladies Night from 9 pm to 12 am with free domestic draft, house wine and well, 1/2 off premium drinks and shots. Free pool is on Thursday nights at 7 pm, $1 Spring Rolls at 6 pm, and $10 Kill the Keg at 9 pm. Live rock music and $5.99 Fish ‘n Chips on Friday nights. Karaoke lovers are in for a treat on Saturdays at 9 pm when they can sang their fa-vorite tunes. $3 Fireball, Jack and Jager ALL DAY

EVERYDAY! Happy Hour is Everyday from 10 am to 7 pm, with $2 dom drafts, $3.50 house wine, $2.50 dom bottles, $2.50 well, $3.50 call, and $4.50 premium! Plus, In The Biz@ employees are always taken care of... ITB@ nights are every day with 25 percent off your entire tab and Sun-days from 8 pm to close is 50 percent off!

Beer enthusiasts should check out Triple B’s more than 21 craft beers rotating on tap at all times, and most are under $6! They also have a full liquor bar.

The food also keeps customers coming back each week! Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Triple B Bar and Grill is known for their American dishes and especially their juicy chicken wings and big half pound burgers. They serve food until 4 am and for those who are hungry late night, they offer a full menu, not just appetizers!

“Everything is homemade here; nothing is frozen. Our chef has been cooking with us at dif-ferent bars and restaurants for 4 years,” added Crowell.

The secret to their success is not just the amazing food and large beer selection.

“Our success is based upon how we treat everyone like family here. No matter if it is your first time or you are here every day; we treat everyone like family!” said Crowell.

Their customers agree.

“It is completely remodeled! Great menu, lots to choose from at a decent price. They have dif-ferent specials every day. We went on Tuesday, they have $3 burgers. The wings were awesome and the bleu cheese dressing was out of this world!” said one customer.

“Bar food is tasty, drinks are tall and cheap, but the staff makes it,” added another regular.

Triple B Bar and Grill is open 365 days a year, including holidays and Christmas. They will be having a huge New Year’s Eve party, indoor and outdoor event! They also host parties and special events of all kinds. Book now!

Triple B is located at 830 south Dixie High-way Hollywood, FL 32020 (just one block south of downtown Hollywood). For more informa-tion, visit www.triplebbarandgrill.com or call (754) 888-9978. You can also visit them on Facebook at tripbbar.

Brewing isn’t just for the bros… Chicks can make beer too!

By Nicol JeNkiNsEditor

The beer making business isn’t just a man’s world. Nowadays, women are also getting involved in brewing up new concoctions.

Kym Poon Werth, who is a Sales Manager for the Fort Lauderdale based Stephens Distributing is one of the Orlando Brewing’s Babes to mix up a new brew perfect for the holidays--- Chocolate Mint Girl Stout.

“This is the first beer that I’ve brewed,” said Kym, “Usually in the winter, even though we are in Florida, people like to get into the season by drinking darker, more flavorful beers. The Chocolate Mint Girl Stout is perfect for this time of the year.”

Chocolate Mint Girl Stout was the first beer in Orlando Brewing’s Babes’ Brew Series, a line dedicated to women in the craft beer industry. First drafted and crafted by the ladies of Orlando Brewing in 2013, Girl Stout was the fastest mov-ing beer in Orlando Brewing history... And for good reason – think of a liquid thin chocolate mint cookie.

The business has decided to triple this year’s batch and distribute Girl Stout outside their tap-room to South Florida bars and restaurants.

Megan Cheek, Brewery Operations Manager and spearhead of the Babes’ Brew Series, was thrilled to have the women on board. “It is im-portant to get more ladies involved in the brew-ing process, because beer,” says Cheek, “Beer is not just a man’s drink anymore.”

What’s in the newly brewed Chocolate Mint Girl Stout? According to Kym, it was brewed with organic cocoa nibs and organic peppermint from Good Life to Go. The 6.5% ABV stout will boast a robust chocolate flavor and the perfect touch of mint. Cocoa nibs and peppermint were added during the brew’s 60 minute boil alongside Nug-

get, Fuggles and Liberty hops.

“Orlando Brewing Company is one of the many breweries that we distribute for,” said Kym, “They are the only USDA certified organic brewery south of Vermont and east of Colorado. They are also the first brewery to be declared “Fresh From Florida” by the Florida State Depart-ment of Agriculture.”

Chocolate Mint Girl Stout can be sampled locally in Fort Lauderdale on draft at Riverside Market, Original Fat Cats, American Social, and Royal Pig Pub.

Miami Dolphins Clinging for playoff lives with 3 Games left

The Miami Dolphins were in prime posi-tion to control their playoff destiny.

At 7-5 and sitting in the final wildcard spot in the AFC, they needed to win out and

they’d make just their second postseason ap-pearance of the last decade.

However, Miami came up short in a huge conference battle with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, dropping the contest 28-13.

The Fins had a 10-0 lead throughout the second quarter, but allowed a touchdown right before halftime.

Then, Miami was only able to muster 3 points in the second half, allowing the Ravens to come all the way back and put the Dolphins playoffs hopes on life support.

Miami can still advance to the postseason, but they will need to win out the rest of its games and get a little help from other teams.

As of the writing of this article, the Ravens, Steelers and Chargers all have a one-game

lead over the Dolphins, meaning it will be very tough for the team to sneak in.

The Dolphins have remaining games against New England, Minnesota and the New York Jets. For them to taste the playoffs, they will likely have to win all three of those games and have the aforementioned competing playoff teams lose at least once.

Fortunate for the Fins, two of their remain-ing three games are at home and the Dolphins have responded well after losses this season.

But, it’s disappointing given that Miami had control of their destiny and now will have to fight it out with a bunch of competing squads.

If the Fins can have a little holiday luck go their way, they may be able to sneak into the last playoff spot in the AFC.

After all the questions about their schedule, their troublesome quarter-back and unconvincing wins to inferior

opponents, the Florida State Seminoles did something that no other Division 1 FBS school did in the entire country.

They went undefeated in the regular season.

At 13-0, FSU once again completed a regular season without a loss and won back-to-back ACC championships.

Jimbo Fisher, Jameis Winston and company extended their winning streak to 29 straight games and left no doubt that they should have a place in the inaugural college football playoff.

On Sunday, the playoff committee an-nounced that FSU landed the No. 3 seed in the postseason, with Alabama at No. 1, Oregon at No. 2 and Ohio State at No. 4.

FSU will take on Oregon in the first round

in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl, while Alabama and Ohio State will face off at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Despite the unblemished record, the defending national champions received a lot of criticism this year for having to constantly come from behind to defeat inferior op-ponents and having a weaker schedule than other Power 5 schools.

Regardless, FSU still notched wins over several ranked opponents this season, including Clem-son, Notre Dame, Louisville and Georgia Tech.

None of that will matter once the ball kicks off in Pasadena and the Noles have to face a very potent Oregon team, led by Heisman-leading candidate Marcus Mariota.

For the Seminoles to win this game and advance to the finals, they will need to stop the Ducks high-powered offense.

They will also need Winston to cut down on the turnovers and have a big, clutch game in front of a likely pro-Oregon crowd.

It won’t be easy, but there is no reason to doubt Florida State after winning 29 straight ball games.
