What is an interview? A job interview is a process in which a potential employee is evaluated by an employer for prospective employment in their company, organization, or firm. During this process, the employer hopes to determine whether or not the applicant is suitable for the job. Why job interview? To find out 3 things major things an interview is conduct: 1. Will you be able to do the job well = your skills and experience 2. Are you really motivated to do the job = evidence that you really want it 3. Will you fit into the organization = what kind of person you are Preparing for the Interview Step 1: The Self-Interview 1. Know your strengths & weaknesses by SWOT analysis of your own self. 2. Determine your employment interests; what do you want to do and why 3. Reflect on your values; what’s most important to you 4. Be prepared to cite several examples of experiences, accomplishments, successes Step 2: Research 1. Review employer website/literature 2. Develop targeted questions concerning employer and job 3. Attend Informational Meetings 4. be sure you know what the company stands for, its culture, and why you want to work for them! Step 3: Practice 1. Review common questions 2. Schedule mock interview 3. Prepare list of questions 4. be alert to body language & eye contact 5. Speak clearly; listen carefully 6. Match your skills/experiences with jobs Dressing for Successful interview For men 1. Dressing should be formal and comfort don’t wear jeans and t shirt. 2. Personality should look like a professional person. 3. Suit-Single or double breasted 4. Polished shoes 5. Solid white shirt

Preparing for the Interview

Step 1: The Self-Interview1. Know your strengths & weaknesses by SWOT analysis of your own self.2. Determine your employment interests; what do you want to do and why3. For men 1. Dressing should be formal and comfort don’t wear jeans and t shirt.2. Personality should look like a professional person.3. Suit-Single or double breasted4. Polished shoes5. Solid white shirt6. Neatly groomed hair, beard, and mustache

For women1. Avoid strong colognes, earrings, and body piercing2. Pant or skirt suit, decent traditional outfit.3. Pumps with small to medium heels4. Light makeup, perfume, and jewelry5. Wear neutral color

Check your resume and other documents. 1. Prepare your resume as per job requirements.2. Keep up to date all the documents.

Timely arrive at interview place Be on time ! This means not only don't be late, but don't be too early, and don't arrive with "baggage". 10 minutes early is good.

Body language Body language is a form of non-verbal communication, consisting of body pose, gestures, and eye movements. Humans send and interpret such signals subconsciously. It may provide clues as to the attitude or state of mind of a person. For example, it may indicate aggression, attentiveness, boredom, relaxed state, pleasure, amusement, besides many other cues.1. Good Eye Contact2. Smile3. Open Body Language4. Don’t slouch5. Don’t be too erect6. Make sure your eyes sparkle7. Be engaged8. Breathe deeply9. Accept an offer for a glass of water10. Practice your handshake

Before starting interview.1. Smile. Make eye contact and give a firm handshake.2. Give the appearance of energy as you walk3. Smile4. Shake hands firmly5. Wait until you are offered a chair before sitting6. Sit upright and look alert and interested7. Look the interviewer in the eye8. be careful for folding hands and arms and crossing your legs9. Do not fiddle!

At interview time 1. Matching your communication style to that of the interviewer. 2. Listen carefully to the interviewers questions 3. Avoid interrupting the interviewer. 4. Try not to use jargon in your answers or questions. 5. Manage your body and voiceGet the interviewer to do a lot of the talking.6. Maintain Good eye contact with your interviewer. 7. Smile. Look as if you are enjoying the conversation. 8. Have a Confident posture. 9. Keep all your answers positive. 10 Shows enthusiasm. . If you are selected 1.Reply in writing whether or not you accept2. Be polite if you turn it down 3. Possibly Negotiate salary

If you are not selected1. Be polite and gracious2. Learn what you can from the experience3. Try to find out (or work out) why you did not succeed and then do something to address the issues4. Ask the company!
