Google began in January 1996, as a research project by Larry Page, who was soon joined by Sergey Brin.

They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better ranking of results than existing techniques, which ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page.

Meta Search

A search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and/or databases and aggregates the results into a single list or displays them according to their source.

After receiving a question, the meta-search engine translates the syntax and sends it all together to a set of multiple search engines. All results gathered from the different sources are then collated to remove duplicates and ranked according to its algorithm. Lastly, an organized and sorted list of web pages is presented to the user.
