Preliminary Notes on Foreign Language Choice Language levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
All students have to obtain proof of German A2 by the end of their second semester at the latest. Should you not be able to provide an A2 certificate within the first year of your studies, you will not be allowed to enroll for further semesters. This is reason for ex-matriculation. In order for students to meet the requirement to complete at least German level A2, the Head of the Examination Committee and Academic Director of the degree program International Business recognize one of the following:
Certificates from recognized institutes (i.e. Goethe-Institute or telc) vhb course1: - „DAF Strukturen und Kommunikation A2“
- and if necessary: „Deutsch als zweite Fremdsprache. German after English (A1)“ Please note that ECTS cannot be granted or transferred for A1 or A2 courses. In addition to the mandatory German A2 level you have to choose a foreign language as your major. You can choose between the following:
Czech I-IV (level A1 to B1) Russian I-IV (level A1 to B1)
German I-IV (level B1 to B2) can only be chosen if you already have proof of German A2!
Students have the possibility to do their German A2 first and start with their major language in a higher semester. Please be aware of the fact that this might cause a delay in your studies. You can also prepone modules scheduled for a higher semester with regard to the prerequisites stated in the respective module description. It is recommended not to have more than 6 courses (30 ECTS) each semester.
1 vhb (German: virtuelle Hochschule Bayern / English: virtual university Bavaria) is an online learning platform with online courses from different universities in Bavaria. Further information can be found here: https://www.vhb.org/en/
56
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic additional German online courses can be taken if students cannot manage to come to Germany/Weiden. In order to achieve higher level German certificates without being present for any of the language course, we will recognize the following vhb courses2: For German I (= B1.1. Both courses must be taken):
Deutsch als Fremdsprache. Gesprochene Sprache verstehen B1 (2.5 ECTS) Deutsch als Fremdsprache. Korrekt formulieren B1 (2.5 ECTS)
For German III (= B2.1. Both courses must be taken):
Grammatische Strukturen im wissenschaftssprachlichen Kontext – Deutsch als Fremdsprache Niveau B2 (2 ECTS)
Phonetic Deutsch als Fremdsprache (3 ECTS) German II and German IV are not available at vhb and have to be taken at OTH Amberg-Weiden. All German courses I-IV will be offered at OTH Amberg-Weiden every semester. Change of language selection: If you want to change your chosen language, it is possible to do that once. Please be aware that it might cause a delay in your studies. If you want to change your language a second time, it is only possible if the examination board agrees. Note that you have to take all 4 courses of the (new) language that you chose (I-IV). E.g.: If you started with Russian I and want to change to German in the upcoming semester, you will have to start from German I. Russian I will not count towards your foreign language (i.e. as a major). However, if you passed the exam in Russian I, you have the possibility to keep the credits as addidtional voluntary subject.

• Written part, duration 90 minutes, weighting 0.5 (lexis - grammar, text production 0.25, reading comprehension 0.25) Oral part: weighting 0.5 (listening comprehension 0.25, oral performance tests 0.25).
• Only those students who successfully pass the oral part of the examination will be admitted to the written part of the examination. The final grade for the oral performance certificates of the portfolio is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the grades of the individual partial performances. This assumes that all oral subgrades are passed. The minimum grade for admission to the written part is 4.0. If this average is not achieved, the performance certificates already passed remain valid for a maximum of two years. • Both parts of the examination (written and oral) must be passed. Subsequently, the overall grade is formed from these two partial grades.
• If, due to force majeure, the student cannot take the written part of the examination to which he/she has already been admitted, he/she may be admitted to the next semester upon request, provided that he/she successfully completes the written part of the examination on the next possible date.
The entire learning contents and competence profiles are assessed by way of the aforementioned examination forms.
