Come to our next club meeting on November 9th to celebrate that
the U.S. 2016 presidential Election is finally over! No matter how
you voted this year you this year you will probably happy to see it
done. And while you are at the meeting, you can help elect club
officers for next year.
In honor of the end of elections, our performance theme for the
next meeting is ‘Election Day Magic.’ Tie your magic effect to the
elections anyway you want to make use of the theme. Otherwise,
perform any trick you like, or just come and enjoy the festivities.
On November 2, we are co-sponsoring a Kyle Littleton magic
lecture with the Magicians’ Circle of Elk Grove and SAM 72. The
lecture will be held at the historic Elk Grove Grange Hall at 9101
Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, 95624. The lecture starts at 7:00 PM
and is free to all club members.
Kyle Littleton is a bright, new talent with a fresh approach to
magic, strong technical skills, and a cleaver mind. He is a real
star. His magic is visual, engaging and funny. He will be lecturing
on close-up magic with bills, gum, stickers, cards and coins. This
last minute addition to our calendar of events is something you
won’t want to miss. We just couldn’t pass it up.
Reminder: IBM 192 and SAM 72 will hold a joint holiday club
meeting in December on December 14. The meeting will be held
in the back conference room of the Mission Oaks Community
Center.

We talked about possible upcoming lecturers, Tony Clark, Duane Laflin and Shawn Farquhar. All of the possible
lectures got a favorable response but they are all at nearly the same time early in 2017. [Shawn Farquar has
now been booked for January 4 by Scot Smith for the Elk Grove Magic Circle.]
We had a visitor Bryan Patrick Avery, Amateur Magician, Professional Children's Book Author from Fairfield?
Rick Hill received the magnet shipment he had ordered on behalf of the club and passed out two very thin
magnets to each member attending. If you did not attend, remind Rick before the next meeting so he can bring
them.
The new Magic Dining venture in Folsom, Mystique Dining was discussed. Looks like it will open Nov. 28.

October Performance Notes Marry Mowder, Vice President
Scot Smith performed a Ghost card effect where Mary Mowder's signed
card which was mixed in the deck, ended up sandwiched in between two
Jokers that had been outside of the deck till the very end.
Dale Lorzo showed 4 colorful wooden disks with a hole in the center and
said they represented Wampum, Native American Indian money. He
threaded the Green one onto a rope and tied the rope into a loop
trapping the Green Wampum. He threaded the loop into the holes of the
Blue, Red and Yellow Wampum and hung all the Wampum behind Nelson
Wilcox's back with the rope loop around Nelson's neck. Playing the part
of a Magical Shaman, Dale freed the Red, Yellow and Blue Wampum one
at a time without untying the knot or releasing the loop from Nelson's
neck.
Harry Mossman did a show and tell of several interesting skeleton keys
he'd collected for performing Ghost Key, his point being that you don't
have to buy a "trick" key. Any well balanced key could work if you know
the secret. In a spooky echo of Harry Mossman's show and tell, Rick Hill,
performed Haunted Key and gave some tips on performance. He
explained that if you just imagine the key moving, it will. [Although
there are cheats such as raising and lowering your hand.]
Bill Etgen had a very spooky Skull with electronic glowing eyes and a
strange voice effect on a sound activated microphone. Bill recounted
making the skull help find a chosen and lost card for Halloween shows.
The Kids loved it.
Our guest, Bryan Avery, related an unlucky but magical hand in poker
where he thought he held a straight flush in diamonds but his ace
magically changed places with a four of clubs leaving Bryan as a four
flusher. Bryan demonstrated this by having Scot Smith sign an Ace of
Diamonds and cover it face down on the table with his hand. Bryan then
signed a Four of Clubs and buried it in the deck. When Scot lifted his
hand, Bryan's signed four of Clubs was under Scot's hand and Scot's signed
Ace of Diamonds was in the deck.
Mary Mowder performed Mis-Made Jack O'Lantern silk.
Al Levasseur did an in hand 3 coins across (and back) with a beautiful set
of old coins.
Pepe Puglisi showed a very nice remote control candle and showed a
wonderful silk handkerchief trick where two colored silk handkerchiefs
were threaded at right angles through two nested tubes with holes in
them. Pepe then put the "lit" candle through the tubes and then pulled
the silk scarves out, completely unscathed. Pepe exposed the trick for
the members.
