The Thessaloniki Summer Course on International Aspects and Issues of Energy Law is open to students, especially LLM students and PhD candidates, researchers and practitioners from all over the world with a keen interest in the topic.

International Energy Law is a field in motion. From the industrial revolution onwards energy considerations have shaped international politics and in the last decades, international energy law has developed dynamically: sharing of energy resources, transnational investments in the energy sector, free trade and state subsidies, the proliferation of international energy agreements and the ensuing disputes, energy security and the environmental impact of energy activities are only some of the pressing issues that international law is called to regulate today.

The inaugural session of the Thessaloniki Summer Courses, organized by the Kalliopi Koufa Foundation, will offer an intensive, 10-day course that will introduce the subject of international energy law and examine its links and interaction with various relevant fields of international law, such as environmental law, investment law and arbitration, trade law, law of the sea, etc.

The Foundation will also award a Course Diploma. Only participants holding a law degree will be eligible for the Diploma exam. To obtain the Diploma, you will need to attend diligently the courses, lectures and workshops and sit a written examina- tion in English on Thursday, 9 July 2015 in the afternoon.

The Foundation may offer a limited number of scholarships upon its discretion to candidates who are nationals of non-EU and non-OECD countries and hold a law degree at the time of application. Scholarship requests should be made upon application and be accompanied by two recommendation letters to be sent directly to the email of the summer courses ([email protected]) by the referees within the application deadline.
