ONSITE SETUP REQUIREMENTS

Thank you for purchasing SDL Training!

This document has been created to offer you the requirements and setup in advance of onsite training.

Training Logistics

C Training Times:

C All onsite training sessions begin at 09:30am and end at 17:30pm.

C If the start and end time of the training session is not acceptable, please contact the training department at [email protected] to organize a more suitable time.

C The trainer will arrive at 09:00am to setup in advance of the start time.

C Assigned Breaks:

C A 10 minutes coffee break is offered in the morning and afternoon.

C Lunch is 1 hour in duration. The lunch break will be offered in the early afternoon.

C Feedback:

C Participant should complete the training evaluation survey at the end of the training session.

Training Machine Setup

The training machines must have the latest version of the software installed. The latest version of the SDL Trados technology is SDL Trados Studio 2009. The product package contains the following builds:

C SDL Trados Studio 2009, version 9.1.1264.0.

C SDL Trados 2007, build 863

C SDL Trados Synergy, version 8.3.161.0

C SDLX, build 7044

The latest version of the SDL MultiTerm technology is SDL MultiTerm 2009, version 8.1.1264.0.

System requirements for SDL Trados Studio 2009

Hardware

C 1 GHz Pentium IV or higher compatible processor and 1 GB RAM.

C SDL recommends a recent Pentium using Core Duo technology and 2 GB RAM.

C A mouse or similar pointing device is required.

C A minimum of 1.5 GB of hard disk space should be available.

Platforms

C SDL Trados Studio 2009 runs under Windows 7, Windows Vista 32/64-bit (all editions) and Windows XP (Home and Professional).

C Earlier operating system generations such as Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 98 are not supported.

C Your display settings should be set to at least 256 colors and 1024 x 768 pixels.

C This can be defined in Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings.

Language Support

C In general, language support in SDL Trados Studio 2009 corresponds to the language support installed on your system. For more information about specific support for bi-directional, Asian/DBCS (Double Byte Character Set) and complex script languages in SDL Trados Studio 2009, see the relevant online help.

C If you use the Freelance version of SDL Trados Studio 2009, be sure to select at least one Western language (such as English, French or German) as one of the five languages you want to work with to ensure correct operation of SDL Trados Studio 2009 after installation.

Software

C SDL Trados Studio 2009 supports the Microsoft Office 2007 formats DOCX (Microsoft Word 2007), PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint 2007) and XLSX (Microsoft Excel 2007).

C Microsoft Office 2003, XP (2002) and Microsoft Word 2000 continue to be supported.

C SDL Trados Studio 2009 supports Adobe FrameMaker 8/9 (MIF) and Adobe InDesign CS2/CS3/CS4 (INX and IDML).

C QuarkXPress 7 is supported through the third-party plug-in CopyFlow by Napsys.

C Note that currently the following formats need to be pre-processed in SDL Trados 2007 as TTX before they can be translated in SDL Trados Studio 2009: SGML, PageMaker, Interleaf/QuickSilver

C Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher is required to use the HTML-based help systems that ship with SDL Trados Studio 2009. If you do not already have Internet Explorer 6 (or higher), you can download it from the Microsoft website.

System Requirements for SDL MultiTerm 2009

Hardware

C The minimum specification to run any of the MultiTerm components is a PC with a 500 Mhz Pentium or higher compatible processor.

C 1GB RAM is required in addition to the RAM required by the operating system.

C For optimum performance of the client components, SDL recommends a recent Pentium using Core Duo technology and 2 GB RAM.

C A mouse or similar pointing device is required.

C 300 MB of disk space is required for the software and additional space is required for storing termbase data.

Platforms

C SDL MultiTerm 2009 components runs under Windows 7 / Windows Vista 32/64-bit (all editions) and Windows XP (Home and Professional).

C Earlier operating system generations such as Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows 98 are not supported.

C SDL recommends that you remove support for any non-Western languages you do not work with from the Microsoft Office Language Settings and that you only use the languages that you translate into and from in Microsoft Word. For more information, please see the Microsoft Word online Help system.

Software

C SDL MultiTerm 2009 requires the Microsoft .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1.

C This is included in the installation file for your convenience.

C SDL MultiTerm 2009 requires the Java runtime engine (JRE) version 1.6.0.13.

C This is included in the installation file for your convenience.

C SDL MultiTerm Convert requires Microsoft Excel 2002 (XP) or 2003 for direct conversion of XLS files to MultiTerm XML.

C SDL MultiTerm 2009 supports direct integration with Microsoft Word through the multiterm8.dot and the multiterm8.dotm files.

C This feature requires Microsoft Word 2003 (SP2) or 2007 to be installed on the computer.

C SDL MultiTerm Extract requires Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or higher, Microsoft Excel 2002 or higher for the direct extraction of terms from Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel files.

C SDL MultiTerm Extract requires Microsoft Word 2000 or higher for optimal processing of Word or RTF-based files.

Software Installation

The installers for SDL Trados 2007, SDL Trados Studio 2009 and SDL MultiTerm 2009 can be downloaded from the SDL Customer Center at:

http://oos.sdl.com/myaccount

When you purchase SDL Trados Studio 2009 software, you will receive an email listing the items that you have purchased. This email also contains the URL for the SDL product licensing website. Your login details for the website are sent to you in a separate email when your account is created.

Download the Software Installer

1. Click the URL in the email you received from SDL, or enter the licensing website URL http://oos.sdl.com/myaccount into your browser.

2. The Customer Center opens on the Login page.

3. Enter your user name and password.

4. Click Login.

5. If you have more than one account the Account Selection page is displayed.

6. Click a Use this account button to display the Account Summary page for the selected account.

7. The Account Summary page will be displayed.

8. This page contains links to the different areas of the Customer Center:

C My Orders: displays your order history and invoices.

C My Licenses: contains your active license files or activation codes.

C My Downloads: contains your software installation downloads.

C My Quotes: displays your quote history.

C My Support: displays your support contract information.

9. Click the My Downloads link.

10. The My Downloads page will appear and display the software installation files that are available in your account.

11. Click the Latest Updates link to view the latest version of the software installation files.

12. The installation files will appear with a Download button available to begin the download process.

13. Click the Download button.

14. Choose the location of the file and begin the download process.

15. When the download is complete, the installation file may be used to install the software.

Install the software

1. Double click the installation file to start the installation of the software.

2. The installation wizard will bring you through each step of the installation process.

3. Follow the instructions to install the software on each training machine.

If you have not purchased the software or you do not have an installer available in your account, please contact the SDL Training Department at [email protected].

Training Licenses

The software must be fully licensed for use during the training session. If you have licenses available, you can use them to license the software that has been installed on the training machines. If you do not have licenses available, you can contact the SDL Training Department, who will send training licenses to you.

C If the training machine has online access, you may request an activation code.

C If the training machine does not have online access, you may request a node locked softkey license.

License using an Activation Code

The SDL Product Activation wizard is displayed automatically when you are installing the software. It is also displayed automatically whenever you open a product that has not been activated.

This is the opening page of the SDL Product Activation wizard:

1. Click to activate the option I have purchased a license. Show me how to activate the product.

2. Click Next to continue.

3. The Select Activation Method page is displayed.

4. Click to select the option Activate your product online.

5. Click Next to continue.

6. The Enter Activation Code page is displayed.

7. Type to enter the activation code that you received from the SDL Training Department.

8. If you use a proxy server to access the Internet, click Advanced.

9. The Advanced Settings dialog box is displayed.

10. Enter the proxy server details and your username and password for the server.

11. Click OK to close the dialog box.

12. Click Next.

13. The wizard connects to the SDL website to validate the code:

C If the product was activated successfully, click Finish to exit the wizard.

C If product activation failed because you entered the wrong code, click Back to return to a previous page. Update the activation code and click Next.

WARNINGF

If the activation fails for some other reason, contact the SDL Training Department for support.

License using a License File

To generate the evaluation license file, you must send the Host ID of each training machine to the SDL Training Department. The Host ID can be generated using the Host ID Generator.

Download the Host ID Generator

1. Browse to the SDL Customer Center at:http://oos.sdl.com/myaccount into your browser.

2. The Customer Center opens on the Login page.

3. Enter your user name and password.

4. Click Login.

5. If you have more than one account the Account Selection page is displayed.

6. Click a Use this account button to display the Account Summary page for the selected account.

7. The Account Summary page will be displayed.

8. Click the My Licenses link.

9. The My Licenses page will appear and display the software licenses that are available in your account.

10. Click the required product, then select Softkey Licenses, and finally click the Generate License File link.

11. The Generate License File page will be displayed.

12. Click the download the Host ID generator link.

13. Choose the location of the file and begin the download process.

14. When the download is complete, the installation file may be used to install the software.

Generate the Host ID

1. Unzip the files from the zip file HostIDGen.zip.

2. Double click the file HostIdGenerator.exe.

3. The Trados FLEXlm Host ID Generator dialog box will appear.

4. Click Generate.

5. The Host ID will appear in the Host ID text field.

6. Click Copy to Clipboard to copy the detail to the clipboard.

7. Paste the ID into an email or a file.

8. Repeat this process for each training machine.

TIPE

To facilitate the process, we recommend that you type the name of the training machine beside the Host ID. The training license that is generated will have the name of the machine in the name to associate each file with the machine it will license.

9. Email the Host ID information to the SDL Training Department.

10. The SDL Training Department will generate the evaluation license files and send these to you via email.

11. The license files can be used during the installation process to license the software.

Activate the License File

During installation, the SDL Product Activation wizard will appear.

1. Click to activate the option I have purchased a license. Show me how to activate the product.

2. Click Next to continue.

3. The Select Activation Method page is displayed.

4. Click to select the option Use a local license file.

5. Click Next to continue.

6. The Select License File page is displayed.

7. Click Browse and navigate to the folder containing the (*.lic) license file that you received from the SDL Training Department.

8. When you have selected the folder, check that the correct details appear in the Select license file box and then click Next.

9. If the product was activated successfully, click Finish to exit the wizard.

10. If product activation failed, click Back to return to a previous page. Correct the folder details you specified and then click Next to continue.

Companion Software

If the training outline includes training for any of the following applications or file formats, the client is responsible for installing the software on the training machines:

C Microsoft Office

C Adobe FrameMaker

C QuickSilver Interleaf

C Adobe InDesign

C Adobe PageMaker

C QuarkXPress

Training Material

In advance of the training session, the following will be avaiable in your “My Account” area:

C The training manual in PDF format.

C The training sample files.

C A copy of the sample files should be placed on the desktop of each of the training machines.

C Please ensure that the files are copied in the same folder structure as they are delivered.

Parallel Installation of SDL Trados Studio 2009 and SDL Trados 2007

SDL Trados Studio 2009 can run while SDL Trados 2007 is installed on the same PC. It is even recommended that you have both versions running on the same computer.

Parallel Installation of SDL MultiTerm 2009 and Previous Versions

It is recommended that you uninstall any previous SDL MultiTerm versions. You may leave SDL MultiTerm 2007 Desktop installed. This is only recommended when are required to work with SDL MultiTerm 2007 Server or SDL MultiTerm 2007 Team. The uninstall procedure creates a backup of your termbases.
