About Peninsula Health Peninsula Health is the major metropolitan health service for Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula area. We care for a population of 300,000 people, which swells to over 400,000 during the peak tourism seasons between December and March. We care for our community across the life continuum from maternity and obstetric services, paediatrics, emergency medicine, critical care, surgical and general medicine, rehabilitation, and oncology, through to aged care and palliative care. We also provide extensive services in acute and community mental health as well as a number community health services, health promotion and education, and ambulatory care. With over 6,000 staff and 700 volunteers, our dedicated and highly skilled team work together to provide world-class care, close to the home of consumers and families on the Frankston Mornington Peninsula. Rosebud Hospital
Rosebud Hospital provides care to the Southern end of the Peninsula. It provides emergency care, general medical care,
rehabilitation and radiology services. Community Health services are also operated from this site.

The Mornington Centre
The Mornington Centre is a purpose built 90 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management facility. The Mornington Centre
provides a full range of specialist medical, nursing and allied health services. On admission, patients are assessed by our
clinical team and undertake an individualised therapy program.

Golf Links Road Rehabilitation Centre
The Golf Links Road site houses a number of Peninsula Health’s Community and Continuing Care Services. Services include:
rehabilitation (including physiotherapy, speech pathology and occupational therapists), prosthetics, social work,
hydrotherapy and gym access and palliative care.

Mental Health Services
The Mental Health team provides services for our community through Youth (16-25 years), Adult (26-64 years) and Aged
Persons (65 years +) Programs. These programs are either within the community, inpatient or residential areas.

Carinya Residential Aged Care Service
Carinya is a 26-bed purpose built Aged Persons Mental Health Residential Care Facility designed to provide high level
specialist nursing care to residents with complex mental health diagnoses who are unable to be managed effectively in a
generic aged care facility.

Our Medical Workforce Team The Medical Workforce Team supports the Junior and Senior Medical Staff with recruitment, registration, visa application,
contracting, remuneration and credentialing. Interns and Residents in the general program are managed by the department.
Registrars and direct appointed Residents (eg. Psychiatry) and Senior Medical Staff are managed by the individual
department in conjunction with the Medical Workforce Team.

Does Peninsula Health interview applicants?
There will be no face-to-face interviews held. Instead, candidates will record their answers to interview questions, and these
interview recordings will be accessed by health services the candidate has listed in their preferences with PMCV.
Rotations and working at Peninsula Health
What rotations will I do and where?
During your clinical year, you will undertake five (5) rotations that have the following durations:
4 x 10 weeks
1 x 12 weeks
Intern rotations are based on our following hospitals:
Frankston Hospital 30 positions
Rosebud Hospital 4 positions
Gold Links Road 1 positions
The Mornington Centre 1 position
Intern rural rotations include:
West Gippsland Hospital 3 positions
Interns will undertake at least one rural rotation, (but no more without a special request from the intern) however this will be
confirmed by operations team prior to clinical year commencing.
All interns must satisfactorily complete core terms of 10 weeks General Medicine, 10 weeks General Surgery and 8 weeks
Emergency Medicine as part of a minimum 47 week year in order to achieve full registration with the Australian Health
Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA). The remaining rotations are made up of core & non-core rotations.

How are rotations allocated/determined?
Rotations are allocated based on 39 lines, containing 5 rotations with each line containing a minimum of 3 core rotations
(Emergency/Medicine/Surgery), 2 core or non-core rotations and two weeks annual leave.
Interns will rank each line from with 1 being most preferred. Rotations are allocated according to number of 1st preferences
per line, rotations interests and any special circumstances will be taken into consideration. Rotational swaps are considered
as long as long as the core rotation requirements are maintained.

What about annual leave?
Two weeks annual leave is rostered across your 52 week roster. The leave will be pre-allocated in the rotation line you are
allocated to but please make any comments or request re annual leave e.g. Weddings, family commitments that may need
to be considered. The remaining three weeks are taken at the end of the intern year, in the gap between finishing as an
intern and the start of the next clinical year.
Will I do night duty?
Interns at Peninsula Health only undertake night duty as part of their Emergency Medicine term, there will be the support of
senior registrars and consultants available for support.
Am I paid under an Award?
The current Award which covers Junior Medical Staff (Interns through to Specialty Registrars) is commonly known as the
“Victorian Public Health Sector (AMA Victoria) – Doctors in Training (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2018-
2021”. Our junior medical staff are employed according to the current/relevant Agreement.
Education, support and wellbeing The Medical Education Team supports the learning, professional development and wellbeing of prevocational medical staff.
The team coordinate your orientation program, weekly education sessions and the provision of regular feedback from your
supervisors. We support junior doctor wellbeing by providing access to both internal and external support networks, a
mentoring program and regular wellbeing sessions.
What is the Intern Orientation like?
The Intern Orientation Program is reviewed each year, building on the feedback from the Interns themselves. The program
runs for 5 days. Three out of the five days covers various clinical, IT, clerical and policy matters, whilst the remaining two

days, Interns will complete the ‘Very BASIC’ course which covers Basic Assessment and Support of Critically Ill Patients for
Junior Doctors. The course includes lectures and skills stations with pre and post testing to develop confidence and the skills
necessary to assess and manage critically unwell patients in the ward setting. The orientation program is emailed to you in
early December. You will also attend a specific department/unit orientation at the commencement of each of your rotations.
Attendance is compulsory and you will paid for your orientation.
What education is available?
Peninsula Health offers extensive opportunities for interns to learn and make the transition from medical student to working
as a junior doctor, through on- the-job opportunities, tutorials, simulation and workshops. Our dedicated Medical Education
Officer, Term supervisors and the Director Clinical Training supports interns both on clinical and wellbeing aspects.
What about supervision and support?
Each term has a nominated supervisor. The DCTs and MEO provide additional learning and wellbeing support to interns, when
needed.
The Medical Workforce Unit will also provide support and guidance as appropriate. They will be your first point of contact in
most instances with regards to annual leave, conference leave, payroll, recruitment queries and whole myriad of other
questions that may come about. They are responsible for submitting your intern certificate to AHPRA upon successful
completion of your 47 weeks. All Peninsula Health staff are your support base, NUMs and ANUMs, HMOs, Registrars,
Consultants, Allied Health, Contact Centre, We are One Peninsula.
What about life after Internship?
Interns are encouraged to remain with Peninsula Health throughout their prevocational years and possibly beyond. Peninsula
Health provides training in many areas of medicine, research and teaching opportunities. Further training:
