All Things Happen For A Reason

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making

plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States. It had taken years, but theyhad finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on anew liner to the United States.

The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life. However, seven daysbefore their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the boy but hung ayellow sheet on the Clarks' front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantinedfor fourteen days.

The family's dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they hadplanned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave -

without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God fortheir misfortune.

Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland - the mighty Tittanic had sunk. Theunsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on thatship, but because the son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland. When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thankedGod for saving their lives and turning what he had felt was a tragedy into a blessing.Although we may not always understand, all things happen for a reason.

    Generosity

Mahatma Gandhi went from city to city, village to village collecting funds for the Charkha Sangh.During one of his tours he addressed a meeting in Orissa. After his speech a poor old woman got up.She was bent with age, her hair was grey and her clothes were in tatters. The volunteers tried to stopher, but she fought her way to the place where Gandhiji was sitting. "I must see him," she insisted andgoing up to Gandhiji touched his feet. Then from the folds of her sari she brought out a copper coin andplaced it at his feet. Gandhiji picked up the copper coin and put it away carefully. The Charkha Sanghfunds were under the charge of Jamnalal Bajaj. He asked Gandhiji for the coin but Gandhiji refused. "Ikeep cheques worth thousands of rupees for the Charkha Sangh," Jamnalal Bajaj said laughingly "yetyou won't trust me with a copper coin." "This copper coin is worth much more than those thousands,"Gandhiji said. "If a man has several lakhs and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn't mean much. But this coin was perhaps all that the poor woman possessed. She gave me all she had. That was verygenerous of her. What a great sacrifice she made. That is why I value this copper coin more than a croreof rupees."

A young man was getting ready to graduate college . For many months he had admired a beautifulsports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was allhe wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told himhow proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son

    a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-boundBible. Angrily, he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?"and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy book.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home andwonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. Hehad not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegramtelling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to comehome immediately and take care things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness andregret filled his heart.

He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it yearsago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he read those words, a car keydropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealerwho had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAIDIN FULL.

How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

    BUTTERFLY

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched thebutterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed tostop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit ofthe cocoon.

The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings wouldenlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen bodyand shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and thestruggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid fromthe body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedomfrom the cocoon.Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our liveswithout any obstacles, it would cripple us.

We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!

    The obstacle in our path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see ifanyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came byand simply walked around it.Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting thebig stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the

boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. Aftermuch pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, henoticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins anda note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from theroadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked,"Who would like this $20 bill?"Hands started going up.He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumplethe dollar bill up.He then asked, "Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air."Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into thefloor with his shoe.He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air."My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you stillwanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we makeand the circumstances that come our way.We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you willnever lose your value. You are special - Don't ever forget it!

    The 4 wives

robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He's very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to hisfriends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is themerchant's confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wifeand she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.

Now, the merchant's 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining hiswealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love thefirst wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of hisluxurious life and told himself, "Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I'll be alone. How lonelyI'll be!"Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showeredgreat care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!"replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word. The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant's heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rdwife, "I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep mecompany?" "No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is so good over here! I'm going to remarry when you die!"The merchant's heart sank and turned cold.He then asked the 2nd wife, "I always turned to you for help and you've always helped me out. Now Ineed your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't helpyou out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." Theanswer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated. Then a voice called out : "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go." The merchantlooked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition.Greatly grieved, the merchant said, "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have !"Actually, we all have 4 wives in our livesa. The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it'llleave us when we die.b. Our 3rd wife ? Our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.c. The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we'realive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.d. The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensualpleasure.Guess what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it's a good idea tocultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we're on our deathbed to lament

    Love Of The Child

  • 8/8/2019 Interesting Stories

    10/21

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of goldwrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box toput under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morningand said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The man was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the

box was empty. He yelled at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there issupposed to be something inside? The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and cried, "Oh,Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew kisses into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness.

Only a short time later, an accident took the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that goldbox by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kissand remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each one of us, as humans beings, have been given a gold container filled withunconditional love and kisses... from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simplyno other possession, anyone could hold, more precious than this.

    The Wooden Bowl

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson. The old man's

hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at thedinner table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult.Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something aboutgrandfather," said the son. I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. Sothe husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the

family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food wasserved in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather's direction, he had a tearin his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when hedropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He askedthe child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a littlebowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up." The four-year-old smiled and wentback to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to streamdown their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening thehusband took grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husbandnor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds everprocess the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for familymembers, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that everyday that building blocks are being laid for the child's future.Let us all be wise builders and role models. Take care of yourself, ... and those you love, ... today, andeveryday!

    Beautiful Story

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other

frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogsignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kepttelling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what theother frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to

stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the otherfrogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they wereencouraging him the entire time.

    This story teaches two lessons:

    1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down canlift them up and help them make it through the day.

    2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them.

Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words... it issometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speakwords that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual whowill take the time to encourage another.

Mountain Story - An interesting short story

"A son and his father were walking on the mountains.

    13/21

Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"He receives the answer: "Who are you?"And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"The voice answers: "I admire you!"

Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"He receives the answer: "Coward!"He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"The voice answers: "You are a champion!"The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.It gives you back everything you say or do.Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;Life will give you back everything you have given to it."YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!"

    Building Your House

    14/21

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave thehouse-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. Hewould miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go & asked if he could build just one more house as apersonal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his

work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way toend a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed thefront-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you."

    The carpenter was shocked!

What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all sodifferently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, wewould do it much differently.

But, you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail, place a board, orerect a wall. Someone once said, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your attitude, and the choices youmake today, help build the "house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely!

This happened many many summers ago. There was a young flower in the desert where all was dry and sad looking...It was growing byitself...enjoying every day...and saying to the sun "When shall I be grown up"? And the sun would say"Be patient"---Each time I touch you,you grow a little"...And she was so pleased.Because she wouldhave a chance to bring beauty to this corner of sand...And this is all she wanted to do---bring a little bitof beauty to this world.

One day the hunter came by---and stepped on her.---She was going to die---and she felt so sad.Notbecause she was dying ---but because she would not have a chance to bring a little bit of beauty to thiscorner of the desert. The great spirit saw her, and was listening.---Indeed,he said ...She should be living...And he reacheddown and touched her---and gave her life. And she grew up to be a beautiful flower...and this corner of the desert became so beautiful because ofher.

    The Cracked Pot

  • 8/8/2019 Interesting Stories

    16/21

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across hisneck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a fullportion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked potarrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water

in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the endfor which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserablethat it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by thestream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."

"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"

"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my sidecauses water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to doall of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to themaster's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wildflowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt badbecause it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, butnot on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantageof it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from thestream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decoratemy master's table. Without your being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace hishouse.

The Moral of this Story: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's thecracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You'vejust got to take each person for what s/he is, and look for the good in them. There is a lot of good out there.

    Nothing is Impossible

    17/21

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I amblind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He thentook the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone whowalked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon theman who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps andasked, "Were u the one who changed my sign this morning? What did u write?"

The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what u said but in a different way." What he had writtenwas: "Today is a beautiful day & I cannot see it."

Do you think the first sign & the second sign were saying the same thing? Of course both signs toldpeople the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told peoplethey were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was moreeffective?

    Moral of the Story:

Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively. Invite thepeople towards good with wisdom.

Suddenly an idea flashed in his mind and he decided to display it on a busy street-square of that smalltown he was resident of. He wanted people's opinion about his caliber and painting skills.

He put his creation at a busy street-crossing. And just down below a board which read-"Gentlemen, Ihave painted this piece. Since I'm new to this profession I might have committed some mistakes in mystrokes etc. Please put a cross wherever you see a mistake."

While he came back in the evening to collect his painting he was completely shattered to see that wholecanvass was filled with Xs (crosses) and some people had even written their comments on the painting.

Disheartened and broken completely he ran to his master's place and burst into tears. Sobbing andcrying inconsolably he told his master about what happened and showed the pathetic state of hiscreation which was filled with marks everywhere. Such was the state that colors were not visible, onlythings one could see were crosses and correction remarks.

This young artist was breathing heavily and master heard him saying "I'm useless and if this is what Ihave learnt to paint I'm not worth becoming a painter. People have rejected me completely. I feel likedying"

Master smiled and suggested "My Son, I will prove that you are a great artist and have learnt a flawlesspainting." Young disciple couldn't believe it and said "I have lost faith in me and I don't think I amgood enough. Don't make false hopes..."

"Do as I say without questioning it. It WILL work." Master interrupted him.

"Just paint exactly similar painting once again for me and give it to me. Will you do that for yourmaster?" Master instructed.Young artist reluctantly agreed and two days later early morning he presented a replica of his earlierpainting to his master. Master took that gracefully and smiled.

    "Come with me." master said.

They reached the same street-square early morning and displayed the same painting exactly at the sameplace. Now master took out another board which read -"Gentlemen, I have painted this piece. Since I'mnew to this profession I might have committed some mistakes in my strokes etc. I have put a box withcolors and brushes just below. Please do a favor. If you see a mistake, kindly pick up the brush andcorrect it." Master and disciple walked back home.

They both visited the place same evening. Young painter was surprised to see that actually there wasnot a single correction done so far. But master wasn't satisfied as yet and he told his disciple "May beone day was too little a time for people to come up with ideas and take out time out of their busyschedules to correct it so let us keep it here for one more day. Tomorrow is Sunday, so we can expectsome corrections coming in."

Next day again they visited and found painting remained untouched. They say the painting was keptthere for a month for no correction came in!
