Gone are the days when dealing with naughty kids was a

headache for parents. In the smart age, there are many

smart ways with the help of which you can handle your

child in the best possible manner, and help them be a

disciplined individual.

Listed below are some of the child discipline methods

and techniques that you can try!

Being clear and consistent is important:

Your child is not a learned individual and will only

understand what is expected out of him or

her when you will state it. Have clear rules

and guidelines and make sure

that you follow them

consistently without any

exemptions.

Understand the core reasons of the actions

Your child may depict inappropriate behaviour due to

some reasons which might not be apparent but would

be disturbing them at the

ground level. Figure out the

core reasons of the actions that

a child does, and you might

get surprised that the problem is

altogether a different one!

Don’t get involved in power battles:

Several times you might feel that your child is indulging

in battles or fights with you

only with the purpose of

proving you wrong.

When that happens,

do not get involved in power battles, and

simply say that you are busy at the moment and will

talk to your child later when he or she would have

calmed down. This will give your child an impression

that their attempt to initiate power battles is futile and

they need to deal maturely to have important

discussions.

Recognize and praise good behaviour:

We are all hungry for genuine praises, and so are

children! Ignoring good behaviour is

something that is absolutely

wrong. Just like you cannot

ignore something your child does

wide of the mark, you should not

ignore an action which is worthy of

being praised and is commendable.

Depict that you are happy with the good behaviour of

your child by throwing hugs, high-fives or simply

clapping for your little one.

Keep your child motivated for conducting in the right

manner and they will try to get the praises with almost

everything that they do.

Never lose your calm:

No matter what happens, never lose your calm. As a

matter of fact, sometimes children even enjoy when the

elders lose their calm and eventually fall for their

tantrums. Thus, it is important that you keep calm and

stay in a good mood, irrespective of the mistake your

child might have done. Don’t lose your control and tell

them outrightly what wrong have they done and the

behaviour should not be repeated in future.

Keep your promises:

Children detest it when their parents do not keep the

promises they do. When this happens, then kids also

try to imitate their parents and do not keep their

promises by mirroring them.

This ultimately results in them

being fearless and not thinking

of the consequences that will

result in the event of them

doing something wrong and

not as per what they promised.

Going for time-outs:

Look for a boring place that has no distractions and

separate your child from their usual surroundings.

Don’t let them interact with anybody and ask them to

stay that way until you give the

instruction to stop the time out.

Don’t let them interact with

anybody and ask them to stay that

way until you give the instruction

to stop the time out. However, make it certain that the

place that you choose for time outs must not be a

dangerous one as your child’s safety is of paramount

importance. Tell your child clearly what have they done

wrong and ask them to go to the time out spot without

making any fuss.

If possible, then set a time limit so that your child can

be aware of the minimum amount of time they will have

to spend all alone, the next time they depict wrong

behaviour.
