Bridges Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) today signed a three-year agreement with the China Education Association for International exchange to form the HBCU – Chinese Universities Collaboration Alliance (the Alliance). The Alliance is formed from 100 universities in the U.S. and China committed to providing opportunities for student and faculty exchanges between the two countries. The agreement was signed as a part of activities for the 6th Annual U.S.-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) held at the State Department. The signing was witnessed by China's Vice Minister Hao Ping and U.S. Under Secretary Richard Stengel.
"For HBCUs, this important international education Alliance with Chinese universities offers opportunities for America's diverse students to study abroad, and better learn how to prepare themselves to participate in our highly competitive and evolving globalized world," said Dr. David Wilson, president of Morgan State University, and Chairman of the HBCU Network. "Today's event is the culmination of much hard work and evolving relationships, beginning in 2013 with high-level introductions in Beijing by the China-U.S. Exchange Foundation."
The agreement and official formation of the Alliance solidifies the 1,000 scholarships awarded to HBCU students by China's Vice Premier Madam Liu Yandong in November 2013. The financial commitment from the Chinese government covers the cost of tuition, room and board for 1,000 students from HBCUs to study inChina, effective fall 2014 and is valued at between $1.2 million USD to $5 million USD within four years.
The HBCU – China Scholarship Network was formed in 2014 to facilitate implementation of the scholarships. To date, there are 43 HBCUs in the Network, and it is managed by Wilson Global Communications.

THE TERRA SANCTA INTERNATIONAL ORGAN FESTIVAL
ISRAEL CONCERT SEASON
OCTOBER 6 – 29, 2015
The Terra Sancta Organ Festival (Holy Land Organ Festival) is an international music event and a cultural activity taking place in Israel and produced by the Custody of the Holy Land, allowing pilgrims and tourists to enjoy the beauty of its pipe organs, an asset that would otherwise be restricted to Latin Catholics in their liturgies.
The concerts will take place in Tel Aviv-Yafo at St. Peter’s Church, Old Yafo, Nazareth at the Basilica of the Annunciation and in Jerusalem at the Church of St. Saviour, New Gate.
The organists are all internationally known musicians.
The entrance to all concerts is free of charge.

The Historical Society of the Nyacks’ Fall exhibition will feature the photographs of the construction of the original Tappan Zee Bridge taken between 1952 - 1955 by Leonard Cooke of Nyack. The Historical Society is pleased to share these images in its new exhibit this September.
Leonard Cooke was co-founder (with Walter Blount, Sr.) of the Nyack NAACP and served as its President for many years. He was Chairman of the Nyack Housing Authority, served on the Nyack Board of Water Commissioners, and was a Trustee of St. Charles AME Zion Church. He was an active campaigner for Civil Rights, equal housing opportunities and the hiring of African-American teachers in the Nyack Public Schools. Mr. Cooke was an also an accomplished photographer, musician, composer and artist. Employed as a machinist at the General Motors Plant in Sleepy Hollow, he often commuted across the Hudson River on his motorboat, which gave him a close-up view of the bridge construction. The Leonard Cooke photographic exhibit opens on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Refreshments will be served.The exhibit will continue through November on our new schedule: Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged.
The Historical Society of the Nyacks’ Museum is located in the Depew House across the street from Memorial Park, at 50 Piermont Avenue, Nyack NY 10960. Enter under the front porch. Metered Parking is available in the Nyack Library parking lot off Hudson Street, and there is also free and metered street parking nearby.

Tenure-Track Position for Fall 2016
The Department of African American Studies is announcing a search for an Assistant Professor of African American Studies at Temple University. The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in African American Studies, or a related social, behavioral science, legal, educational, or liberal discipline with an emphasis on the juncture of urban culture and political action. The preferred areas of specialization are contemporary cultural influences on the movement for social justice, policy-making, and theories of critical derivatives such as New Thought. The applicant should be conversant with the latest theories in African and African American urban culture and with prospects for future discourses on restorative justice. Applicant should be able to teach the Hip Hop Cultural Movement, Urban African American Politics, and the interrelationship of racial politics and race relations in modern America. The applicant should manifest an interest in pursuing a research agenda consistent with working in an Afrocentric research-oriented department. A doctorate is required. In this position, Breneiser is responsible for research and planning of all future vehicles in the North American market. He also is named to the FCA US Leadership Team with this appointment. Benjamin Winter, who previously held the role, is assigned Vehicle Line Executive for the C/D Segment. In his previous role, Breneiser was Director – Portfolio Planning, Product Planning. Prior to that, he held various roles in the Product Planning department. Breneiser joined Chrysler in 1992 as part of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering, the company’s highly successful rotational program for incoming engineers. He has held positions of increasing responsibility in the engineering, manufacturing and finance organizations. Breneiser holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Systems Engineering from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University).
