intelligence to innovation
DESCRIPTION
My view of where design can and should be headed, given the enabling technology of BIM and the challenge of Living Buildings. This is a brief version of presentation given to Vancouver BC chapter of NAIOP.TRANSCRIPT
Intelligence to Innovation

Building Information Modeling (BIM)
• data & communication technology tool for object-oriented development using purpose-driven exchange to:– design & construct a project– maintain & operate a facility
Spata - 2009©
Virtual Design & Construction (VDC)
• before we build in the field (in vivo), we build a prototype in BIM (in silico) and test that it works– the virtual building is analyzed with
research applications & simulations to coordinate building systems and construction operations
– ...and to ensure sustainable performance

Innovation
• Internal– process need– unexpected– incongruity– changes in market structure
• External– new knowledge– demographics– changes in perception, mood, meaning
