Intel® Multi-Core Curriculum Initiative- Worldwide

• In 2006, Intel announced a global effort to partner with select universities, by providing grants and expertise to incorporate multi-core and multi-threading concepts into their computer science curricula. The objective was to prepare university students for a new paradigm of software development on Multi-Core Processors.

• This effort has since then moved on a fast track and scaled to cover 42 countries, 401 universities in 2007 and trained over 25000students on Multi-Core Programming. All of these 41 universities have also adopted the Intel Multi-Core Curriculum.

• Currently in its second phase that extends through 2008, the effort will scale to reach over 800 Universities worldwide, enabling students all over to gain the skills and knowledge required to successfully transition into the industry, and create tomorrow’s compelling products.

Expand to 100 in 3 yearsBased on the good foundation in 2006 and 2007, Intel will extendthe support to more universities adopt Multi-Core technology into curriculum:

In Nov. 2006, Intel signed the 5-year MOU with MOE, Intel commits to support 100 universities on the adoption of Multi-Core technology into curriculum;In 2007, Intel have expanded the Multi-Core universities to 37, from 5 in 2006;In 2008, Intel supports more universities to have 102 in total, to help universities for curriculum development and talent education on Multi-Core, and hand-in-hand move to “Multi-Core era”.

• 2007, Intel-MOE Model Curriculum launched and focused on multi-core area and 12 out of 52 proposals were granted. 1 of them awarded “National Model Curriculum” and 2 were nominated by MOE for National Model Curriculum Review

• 2008, 13 multi-core curriculum proposals were granted. They are in areas of: Computer Architecture, OS, Compiler & Multi-core programming

Programming Contest:

• Support Multi-core University program to enhance the awareness of Multi-core technology

• A nation wide contest, with more than 7400 contestants all across China, of whom 80% are college students

• All designs are based on Intel Dual Core/low power EIA platform

• WW Coverage: totally 72 universities, 160 participating teams, including 10 teams from WW (US, India, Malaysia, Singapore, HK, China etc)
