U . S . I n t e r n a t i o n a l U n i v e r s i t y - A f r i c a i s an a s s o c i a t e d campus o f U n i t e d S t a t e s I n t e r n a t i o n a l U n i v e r s i t y i n San Diego, C a l i f o r n i a . There a r e o t h e r a s s o c i a t e d campuses i n t he U.K. ( U . S . I n t e r n a t i o n a l U n i v e r s i t y - Europe) and Mexico ( U n i v e r s i d a d I n t e r n a c l o n a l de M e x i c o ) . A l l U.S.I.U. campuses a r e p r i v a t e , n o n - p r o f i t U.S. a c c r e d i t e d e d u c a t i o n a l i n s t i t u t i o n s . U . S . I n t e r n a t i o n a l U n i v e r s i t y - A f r i c a o f f e r s undergraduates degrees I n B u s i n e s s A d m i n i s t r a t i o n , Human B e h a v i o u r , Psycho logy , Soc io l ogy and I n t e r n a t i o n a l R e l a t i o n s . Graduate degrees I n c l u d e a Master o f S c i e n c e i n Management and O r g a n i z a t i o n a l Development and a Master o f B u s i n e s s A d m i n i s t r a t i o n . S t u d e n t s have the o p p o r t u n i t y t o complete t h e i r s t u d i e s i n Kenya o r they may choose t o t r a n s f e r t o o t h e r u n i v e r s i t i e s i n c l u d i n g o t h e r U.S.I.U. campuses.

The f u l l - t i m e r e s i d e n t f a c u l t y i s augmented by v i s i t i n g p r o f e s s o r s from our a s s o c i a t e d campuses and by a c a d e m i c a l l y q u a l i f i e d p a r t - t i m e s t a f f f rom r e s i d e n t i n t e r n a t i o n a l a g e n c i e s , and l o c a l p r o f e s s i o n a l c e n t e r s and i n s t i t u t i o n s i n the N a i r o b i community.

HISTORY OF U.S.I.U,-A. COMMENCEMENTS

C l a s s e s a t U.S.I.U.-A, o f f i c i a l l y began i n 1970. The U n i v e r s i t y program expanded from one i n which s t u d e n t s completed t h e i r degrees a t the San Diego campus to a f o u r - y e a r undergraduate program and graduate program i n Kenya.

The f i r s t g radua t i on from the N a i r o b i campus took p l a c e i n June 1979 , a t the K e n y a t t a Conference Cen te r . I t was a p p r o p r i a t e t h a t the Honorable Mzee Jomo K e n y a t t a ' s daughter was on the speake r ' s p l a t f o r m as her f a t h e r had f i r s t met w i t h Dr, W i l l i a m C. R u s t , P r e s i d e n t o f U.S.I.U., t o d i s c u s s the U n i v e r s i t y i n 1969 and 1 9 7 0 .

Today we a r e aga in J o i n e d by a member o f the K e n y a t t a f a m i l y ; Mrs. C h r i s t i n e K e n y a t t a P r a t t i^s here to do us the honor o f a f f i r m i n g t h e f a m i l y support o f U.S. I .U.-A. •̂s newly c r e a t e d Mzeee Jomo K e n y a t t a S c h o l a r s h i p t o begin i n t he 1983 -1984 academic y e a r .

Between 1979 and 1 9 8 2 , 66 s t u d e n t s graduated from the N a i r o b i campus w i t h Master 's degrees and 118 r e c e i v e d t h e i r undergraduate degrees. Today 32 g raduate s t u d e n t s and 50 undergraduates w i l l have t h e i r degrees c o n f e r r e d .
