He’s known for key TV appearances as Mr. Big on “Sex and the City” and Det. Mike Logan on “Law & Order,” but actor Chris Noth is now tackling a very different kind of role as the national spokesperson for Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM).
The issue hits close to home for Noth, whose father and grandfather were life insurance agents. Their chosen profession literally paid off after Noth’s father, who knew the value of life insurance and was adequately insured, died in a car accident when Chris was just nine years old. Proceeds from his life insurance policy helped put Noth and his two brothers through college.
“These are difficult times and many families are struggling,” Noth said in a recent statement that kicked off a national educational campaign coordinated by the nonprofit LIFE Foundation, which was formed in 1994. “Especially at a time like this, life insurance can be that safety net that catches a family when tragedy strikes. I know from personal experience that life insurance can be the bedrock of a family’s financial security… A family’s financial future is too important to leave to chance.”
LIAM is observed each September as a reminder to the public about the importance of life insurance in providing adequate financial protection to loved ones. That effort will include public service announcements by Noth on TV, radio and the LIFE Web site, as well as awareness-building activities led by more than 100 leading insurance companies and tens of thousands of agents.

Standard Insurance Company has introduced a group voluntary long-term disability insurance product available in most states under the Your Choice brand that incorporates certain short-term disability features.
The coverage, which is customized around personal income-protection needs, include three maximum benefit period options, six accident/sickness benefit waiting periods and monthly benefit amounts selected in $100 increments. Also included is a confidential employee assistance program for groups with 10 to 2,499 insured employees.
