Cengage Learning MindTap instructors

Introduction

A Course Mode MindTap contains Activities that come to the MindTap from the Core text or as digital-

first content. The MindTap can also include homework and assessments from other Cengage products.

MindTaps include Apps, web applications deployed inside the MindTap container. Apps contribute

learning Activities and behaviors to MindTap.

One such App is Learning Labs, which are unique to the Cengage Skills disciplines (e.g., Paralegal,

Medical Assisting, Medical Insurance, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, etc). Learning Labs are skills-

based online homework solutions that allow students to practice the most difficult concepts in a

simulated real-world environment. Learning Labs prepare students for their career by increasing

comprehension and critical thinking skills by engaging them with dynamic skills-based activities and

assessments. A pretest assesses the student’s understanding, and immersive learning activities engage

students and give instant feedback so students can track their progress. A final posttest grade is

submitted to the LMS gradebook for each module.

Learning Labs are available as standalone products, or as Capstone Activities within the MindTap

Learning Path. Please check with your Cengage sales representative for the latest pricing and hosting

information for both standalone and MindTap-integrated Learning Lab products.

NOTE: Not every Cengage Skills MindTap contains a Learning Lab as the Capstone Activity. Some titles

may include other activity types as the Capstone Activity.

MindTap Course via the learning path.

Locating and Using Learning Labs on the MindTap Learning Path

Once you’re in your MindTap course, here’s an example of where you will often find the Learning Lab

activities:

Will usually be on the Learning Path as a Capstone Activity, clearly labeled as a Learning Lab. Click to load.

Note: Not all MindTap Capstone Activites in Skills MindTaps are Learning Labs.




Click on Start Assignment Now

Learning Lab Module launches immediately in a separate window. This particular one starts with a video intro.

Immediate feedback on pre-assessment.




Proceed through Learning Activities. Total time on task is typically 30-45 minutes per module.

When the Mentor is highlighted, there is help available.

The post-assessment gives immediate answer feedback, but the scores are recorded.

Once you complete and exit the Learning Lab module, you will return to the MindTap home screen, where your post-assessment score is recorded.

You are given the option to retake the assignment.



Adding Learning Lab Activities to the MindTap Learning Path

When you adopt a MindTap course that has the Learning Lab integrated into the learning path, there

will occasionally be a lapse of time between when a MindTap course is available, and when the Learning

Lab Capstone Activities are available. To add newly-released activities to your MindTap course, follow

these instructions.

Adding Distinct Activities

Use the following procedure to add Distinct Activities.

1 Navigate to the Learning Path to the chapter where you want to add a Learning Lab module.

2 Click the + icon at the upper right corner.

3 From the Add Activity screen, select Learning Labs from the list.

4 A list of available Activity types will appear.




5 A list of available Learning Lab modules will appear. Select the one you want to add to the chapter.

6 After clicking Select, the Add Activity screen refreshes so that you can define the title, despription, and settings for student use of the added activity. Enter the Activity Name as shown below. Adjust your settings as needed, and click Create.




7 After clicking Create, the screen will refresh for you to specify where you want the added Learning Lab module to appear in your course. Note: the default position is at the end of the selected chapter.

8 If desired, set availability dates for students to access the newly-added Learning Lab module.

Select the exact desired placement on the chapter learning path by clicking the drop-down arrow on the right side of the Order line.

9 Click Save. You will now see the new module has been added!
