Thank you for purchasing the Summit Precision Piston Ring Grinder. The key features are a fixed front stop and an adjustable ring position locator. These enable you to get a repeatable, precision ring gap every time. Other features include a large, easy to turn handle that can be converted to left hand operation if desired, a high quality diamond abrasive wheel and a long lasting, corrosion resistant finish. Be sure to read all instructions before doing any work. Set-up 1) First, mount the ring grinder to a stable surface by using some 5/16” bolts (not included). The ring grinder can also be mounted in a vise if a permanent location is not desired. If left-handed operation is desired, simply remove the wheel and the shaft set screw, then remove the shaft and place it into the left side of the grinder. 2) With the ring grinder securely mounted, place a piston ring against the front stop and place the end of the ring evenly against the wheel as shown in figure 1. 3) Without changing the position of the ring, move the adjustable locator until both contact points touch the inside edge of the ring, then tighten the thumb screw to maintain the position as shown in figure 2. Operation 4) With the ring evenly against the grinding wheel, using a light, even pressure, turn the handle in either direction. Remove only a small amount of material then check the ring gap. 5) Carefully remove any burrs that may be on the ends of the ring before placing it in the cylinder bore. A light touch with a very fine file or abrasive stone works well. NOTE: Due to the design of the Summit Precision Ring Grinder, there should be no burrs on the face of the ring (the surface that contacts the bore). Be sure to check the face for burrs just in case, but leave that surface alone if possible. Checking the Ring end gap 6) Place the ring squarely in the cylinder bore, about 1” below the deck surface. An upside down flat top piston will help you push it evenly into the bore. 7) Use a feeler gauge to measure the ring’s end gap. Light grinding pressure and frequent checking will prevent you from making the gap too large. Front Stop Contact Points Adjustable Locator Piston Ring Cutting Wheel Figure 2 Thumb Screw Figure 1

Instructions for

Precision Piston Ring Grinder SUM-906000 Made in U.S.A.

Thank you for purchasing the Summit Precision Piston Ring Grinder. The key features are a fixed front stop and an

adjustable ring position locator. These enable you to get a repeatable, precision ring gap every time. Other features

include a large, easy to turn handle that can be converted to left hand operation if desired, a high quality diamond

abrasive wheel and a long lasting, corrosion resistant finish. Be sure to read all instructions before doing any work.

Set-up 1) First, mount the ring grinder to a stable surface by using some 5/16” bolts (not included). The ring grinder can

also be mounted in a vise if a permanent location is not desired. If left-handed operation is desired, simply

remove the wheel and the shaft set screw, then remove the shaft and place it into the left side of the grinder.

2) With the ring grinder securely mounted, place a piston ring against the front stop and place the end of the ring

evenly against the wheel as shown in figure 1.

3) Without changing the position of the ring, move the adjustable locator until both contact points touch the inside

edge of the ring, then tighten the thumb screw to maintain the position as shown in figure 2.

Operation 4) With the ring evenly against the grinding wheel, using a light, even pressure, turn the handle in either direction.

Remove only a small amount of material then check the ring gap.

5) Carefully remove any burrs that may be on the ends of the ring before placing it in the cylinder bore. A light

touch with a very fine file or abrasive stone works well. NOTE: Due to the design of the Summit Precision

Ring Grinder, there should be no burrs on the face of the ring (the surface that contacts the bore). Be sure to

check the face for burrs just in case, but leave that surface alone if possible.

Checking the Ring end gap 6) Place the ring squarely in the cylinder bore, about 1” below the deck surface. An upside down flat top piston

will help you push it evenly into the bore.

7) Use a feeler gauge to measure the ring’s end gap. Light grinding pressure and frequent checking will prevent

you from making the gap too large.
