SMART board

• I used the SMART board every day in my lessons.• The SMART board allowed me to interact with various

mathematical figures.• I was able to create very kid-friendly review games and

practice problems. They could easily come up to the board and work a problem or interact with an activity. And they loved doing it! The SMART board was especially helpful with geometry!

• Find examples of presentations on the following slide.

Get to Know the Teacher ActivityStudents had to figure out the math problems on the apples. If they got it correct, they could touch the apple which was linked to another fact about the teacher.

Interactive ChartHere is one of many activities I used from the gallery. The students had to place the terms from the chapter into the proper category. At the end they could check the chart to see if it was correct.

Problem of the Day (SMART response clickers)Every day I began class with a problem of the day. The students submitted their answers via SMART response clickers. They loved using them. It was helpful to them as well as myself because it gave immediate feedback to how many got the answer correct, and what other popular answers were.

MATH OLYMPICSI started the Math Olympics while the Winter Olympics were going on. Every day the students were given a challenge problem. If their team got it correct, they got a point. Here is the SMART board slide I made for our games, and while it was up I had the Olympic them song playing.

Fly Swatter GameThis is a review game we would play. Students would hit a fly with a fly swatter and it would link to a problem. The next person to get the problem right got to hit the next fly.

Page 10: Instructional tech presentation

Koosh-ball gameHere the students would throw a koosh ball at the board and the dot they hit would link to a slide with a review problem on it. Then, I could press the dot on that screen and link back to the main one for the next person to throw the koosh ball. Lots of fun!

Online Videos

• These are both videos I have shown to my classes. The first was a news clip on interest. The second was a Google video on how triangles are used in real world problems.

NEW Lutheran High School

I was limited to the technology that was available to use at this placement. Especially

with switching classrooms during the day, I did not have the same resources in each room.

Power Points

• There was a projector in the classroom as well as one computer.

• Using power point allowed me to show real life applications, as well as already have figures ready to use for my geometry class as they would take a long time to draw on the whiteboard.

Slide Rocket

• I used Slide Rocket to post power point presentations from class.

• For extra credit, students could go on and collaborate using the tool. They created their own problem and added it to the Chapt. 13 Review power point.

• I could then use those problems as a review during class time.

Viewing Slide Rocket

• I have invited you to our Slide Rocket page. You should have gotten an email with the password I have assigned on it.

• By going to www.sliderocket.com and clicking login—you can enter your cuw email and password (newmath1)

• You will be able to view the power points.• Specifically looking at the Chapter 13 Similar Triangles:

You can see a couple slides that students have submitted via slide rocket(student work on website!!).

Classroom Chat

• I have started a chat room using todaysmeet.com for student’s who would like homework help.

• This will become very helpful during exam review time.

• The URL is http://www.todaysmeet.com/NEWmath

TokBox

• I sent a video message back to my 6th graders from my first placement. It was fun to send them a little message via the teacher’s email. She then played it for the students on the SMART board.

My Technology Experience

• Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning new technology and integrating it into my classroom. The students have enjoyed it as well. There is so much more to learn and I am excited to explore!
