This book is mainly for high school students who are thinking about college and

have no idea what they want to study.  Also, for those who know what they want to study but

are unsure what college to go to or are unsure what to expect with their chosen major.

• Part I consists of 201 full descriptions of majors divided into 26 broad categories. 

• These majors were chosen based on questionnaires from almost 2 million high school student SAT registration forms, majors that are most widely offered at colleges, and majors chosen by College Board that are expected or believed to be noteworthy in the near future.  

• In this section users will find answers to the following questions and more. • What is this major about? Is this the major

for you?  What are some typical courser for this major? What are some career options for this major? What are some other majors similar to this major?

Highlights of the broad category introduction (parks and recreation for this example) • "If you choose to study parks and recreation,

you will become something of an expert in leisure, and that may mean you'll get teased a bit."

• "People in this field run programs and supervise and administer activities in many settings: state and national parks, campus recreational programs, hospitals, long-term-care facilities, youth services agencies, military recreational facilities, forest recreation, commercial settings, church outings, corporate and employee recreational destinations, resorts and cruise ships, and camps."

• Information about majors are collected from the colleges themselves.  For this particular major, professors from Oklahoma and Massachusetts were consulted.
