About UsThe Institute of Science & Management, Pundag, Ranchi was established in the year 1985 under the leadership of Dr. Sachidanand, the then Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University. The Institute runs several programmes under its name with Flagship Programme of 2 year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), equivalent to MBA which was started in 1988. ActivitiesIn a Global economic scenario the market has become completely dynamic and to take the challenges, students of MBA course should not only have knowledge and information about the various management techniques and concepts but should also have a versatile dynamic personality.

Therefore, case study method is applied in teaching the students and this makes them quite conversant with the Industrial and Business Scenario before they pass out from the Institute.

About our CampusThe Institute, with a vision to impart quality education for development of the backward region of Jharkhand has been setup in Pundag, Ranchi. It is a rural area, full of landscapes and greenery all around. The Business Management Department runs in a three floor building which consists of AC/Non-AC class rooms, library, auditorium, conference room, computer lab and a sports room.

The Institute is well within the vicinity of Ranchi Railway Station and Airport. One of the distinctions of the Institute

is its library which is said to be the pivot in any educational institution and where all other activities rotate around it. The Library is full of resources including books, journals, reports, thesis, magazines, newspapers, CDs, Cassettes, internet connection, etc. The Institute has been converted into a Wi-Fi-zone, where students and faculties can access internet from any part of the premise.

The Department of Business ManagementAbout the 2 year PGDBM ProgrammeISM’s two-year Post Graduate Programme has two semesters in each year. The students go through a rigorous and continuous evaluation system for each course throughout the semester. The programme covers a large area of learning in management through four broad clusters of courses such as :

• Basic Disciplinary Courses

• Functional Courses

• Advanced Elective Course

• Courses that Build Integrated Outlook and Better Perspective.

The first year of the programme gives a thorough grounding in basic disciplines and also functional areas to provide a strong foundation for advanced courses in the second year.

The first year curriculum mainly Consists of basic and core courses in disciplines like Economics, Behavioural Sciences, Quantitative Techniques, Computers, and Accounting. This is followed by courses in functional areas of management like Finance, Marketing, Production and Operations, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behaviour and Entrepreneurship.

The second year provides an opportunity to the students to specialize in their areas of interest. The Institute offers specialization in advanced courses in Finance, Information Technology, Marketing, Human Resource Development and Entrepreneurship. Besides, there are perspective building courses such as Ethics in Business Management and Innovations, International Management, Environment Management and Managerial Leadership which give finishing touches to the budding managers. Selection ProcedureThe Students are Selected on the basis of scores of CAT, XAT & MAT Examination, GD & P.I.

Facilities inside the CampusComputer CentreThe Computer Centre is fully air-conditioned with state-of-the-art infrastructure that has made teaching, learning, documentation, research and development highly effective. The Centre is well equipped with P4 systems including 1 Red Hat Linux server with Clark Connect Community Edition v4.3 internet gateway solution. All client nodes have Fedora Release 11 operating system (Gnome 2.26.1) with Open Office 3, and Mozilla Firefox 3.5 application suite. The Centre avails 2 Mbps broadband service from BSNL and offers a full-fledged Wi-Fi environment in the campus.

LibraryThe ISM library has a select and growing collection of books, periodicals, journals including latest publications in Business Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management and related subjects.

The Library of ISM has a select collection of about more than 10,000 volumes both of foreign and Indian publications. In addition, the library subscribes to about 100 national and international periodicals. To provide latest information, the library has a collection of corporate annual reports.

The library has a good number of audio and video cassettes on management topics, manuals and software to aid faculty in classes.

The library collections are computerized and the users can access data independently. The library is linked to internet facilities.

It also maintains press clipping files on management and related subjects and is laid out spaciously to provide calm and peaceful environment for serious study.

CanteenISM has a Canteen which runs for the whole day serving meals & snacks to the students, staff & faculties.

Placement CellPlacement Cell is headed by Prof. U.K. Chaubey (Former Director Personnel, Coal India Ltd., VP-HR, Hindalco Industries Ltd. and President, NIPM) supported by Prof. V.N. Sinha., Sr. CRO-cum-Campus Placement Incharge & Prof. A. K. Mishra Asst. Prof. (T&P Cell) & Incharge EDP Cell. Alumni are our key resource for campus placement. We have an Alumni portal through which all our previous students get connected. Even during Summer Internship Programme, some of the students get offer of employment from the Industries. Our Placement week starts from October and students are normally allowed to join the companies after 4th Semester Examination, scheduled in April.
