Tutorial for the Installation of VC6 on Windows Vista/7/8

1. In VULMS, open CS410- Visual Programming course website link.

a. From Downloads section, downloads the vc6.rar b. Extract the folder to vc6

2. Navigate to the installation directory of your VC++6 installation

3. Open the /Common/MSDev98/Bin.

4. Right click on MSDEV.exe and select 'properties'.

5. Select the compatibility tab

a. Select "run this program in compatibility mode for:” b. From the dropdown menu select Windows 98/me (Windows XP SP3 works fine too) c. Check "Run this program as an Administrator" d. Apply the changes

6. Open MSDEV.exe

7. Select Tools > Options

8. In the Editor tab UNCHECK ALL BOXES in 'Save Options' and 'Statement Completion Options'

9. In "Workspace" tab make sure ONLY the following items (may be) are checked: "Display Status Bar" , "Output" , "Workspace"

10. In the Compatibility tab make sure you have "Current source editor emulation:" dropdown box at "Developer Studio"

11. Check ONLY "Enable copy without selection" and "Double-click in dialog editor edits code (MFC only)"

12. click OK 13. Close the IDE

14. Go to you visual C++ installation directory, then to /Common/MSDev98/Bin/IDE/ 15. Delete the following file: DEVDBG.PKG

16. Create a COPY of DEVCPP.PKG

17. Rename the created copy to DEVDBG.PKG

18. Go to you visual C++ installation directory, then to /Common/MSDev98/Bin 19. Right click on MSDEV.exe and select “Pin to Start” 20. Enjoy using Visual Studio C++ 6 under windows vista / 7 / 8
