CrypKey Software Key

System Requirements

Following is a list of the minimum system requirements for running PTW:

• Any Windows Operating System

• Intel or AMD Processor

• 40 GB hard disk space;

• 2 GB of RAM (4 GB or more recommended for large projects);

• CD-ROM drive

Installing PTW 1. Log on to your account with Full Administrative Rights.

To begin, insert the PTW CD into your CD-ROM drive. The following window will appear automatically:

2. Click the “Install Power*Tools for Windows (PTW) Software” option.

01/17/2012 2

3. PTW will begin the installation process. When you get to the options screen, you should install all parts of the

software, especially if this is the first time you are installing PTW.

4. Once the installation finishes, you will need to enable the software key before running PTW. This activation

procedure just takes a few minutes and only needs to occur once. After that, the software key will be enabled as

long as PTW resides on that computer. You can also move the software key from one computer to another;

these instructions are listed on page 5.

5. In Windows, click on the Start Button > Programs > Power*Tools for Windows > Key Utility

6. The following dialog box will appear:

7. Select CrypKey Software Key. Click on the Go to Key Program button.

8. Select Load Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista software key drivers and click the OK button.

Moving the Software Key to another Computer PTW allows you to move the software key from one computer to another. This is useful if you want to work

temporarily on a different computer—say a laptop at home—and then return the software key to the office when

you’re done.

The general procedure is straightforward: you load PTW on both computers, then move the software key back and

forth between the computers as you need it. Keep in mind, though, that you must follow these instructions exactly;

also, remember that the software key can only reside on one computer at a time, not both.

Warning: The software key can only exist in one place at one time—IT DOES NOT BEHAVE

AS WINDOWS FILES DO. This means you cannot make a copy of the software key using the

Windows Explorer; you can only move the software key using the instructions we have provided.

Failure to do so may destroy the software key.

IF THESE COMPUTERS ARE NOT CONNECTED BY A NETWORK, YOU NEED TO USE THE

INSTRUCTIONS WHICH FOLLOW; OTHERWISE, IF THE COMPUTERS ARE CONNECTED BY A

NETWORK, YOU SHOULD FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON PAGE 13.

Follow these instructions if the computers are not connected by a network Throughout these instructions we will refer to the source computer and the destination computer. The source

computer is that which presently has the software key, and the destination computer is that which will receive the

software key. Keep aware of this distinction, as the instructions are different for each.

1. To begin, install PTW on the destination computer. (You have to have PTW installed on the destination

computer before you can proceed to the next step.)

2. On the destination computer, click the Windows Start button, point to Programs, point to Power*Tools for

Windows, and click the Key Utility program.

01/17/2012 6

The following dialog box will appear:

3. Select CrypKey Software Key, then click the Go to Key Program button.

01/17/2012 7

4. The following dialog box will appear:

5. Select Enable, disable, or transfer software key and click the OK button. The following dialog box will

appear:

01/17/2012 8

6. (Still on the destination computer) Click the Transfer button. The following dialog box will appear:

7. (Still on the destination computer) Select the Prepare destination directory for transfer option. Insert a blank

floppy disk into the disk drive. Next, locate the floppy disk drive either using the Browse button or by typing the

drive letter (this is usually the A drive) with “:\”. If you use the Browse button, just locate the drive and click

OK—do not modify the keyfile.txt name.

8. Once the path appears, click the OK button. The floppy disk is now ready to accept the software key.

01/17/2012 9

9. Take the floppy disk to the source computer. On the source computer, click the Windows Start button, point to

Programs, point to Power*Tools for Windows, and click the Key Utility program.

The following dialog box will appear:

10. (Still on the source computer) Select CrypKey Software Key, then click the Go to Key Program button.

Select Enable, disable, or transfer software key and click the OK button. The following dialog box will

appear:

01/17/2012 10

11. Click the Transfer button. The following dialog box will appear:

12. (Still on the source computer) Select the Transfer software key TO floppy disk option and locate the floppy

disk drive either using the Browse button or by typing the drive letter (this is usually the A drive) with “:\” as

shown in the picture. If you use the Browse button, just locate the drive and click OK—do not modify the

keyfile.txt name.

01/17/2012 11

13. (Still on the source computer) Once the path appears, click the OK button. The software key will now be

moved to the floppy disk.

14. Take the floppy disk back to the destination computer. (Be very careful when handling the floppy disk; if it is

lost or damaged, the software key on it will be destroyed.) On the destination computer, start the Key Utility

program again by clicking the Start>Programs>Power*Tools for Windows>Key Utility.

The following dialog box will appear:

01/17/2012 12

15. Select CrypKey Software Key, then click the Go to Key Program button. Select Enable, disable, or

transfer software key and click the OK button. The following dialog box will appear:

16. (Still on the destination computer) Click the Transfer button. The following dialog box will appear:

01/17/2012 13

17. (Still on the destination computer) Insert the floppy disk with the software key into the disk drive. Next, select

the Transfer software key FROM floppy disk option and locate the floppy disk drive either using the Browse

button or by typing the drive letter (this is usually the A drive) with “:\”. If you use the Browse button, just

locate the drive and click OK—do not modify the keyfile.txt name.

18. (Still on the destination computer) Once the path appears, click the OK button. The software key will now be

moved from the floppy disk to the destination computer, and you can now run PTW on the destination

computer. When you want to move the software key back, just follow the instructions again—just remember

that the source computer is always that which presently has the software key, and the destination computer is

always that which will receive the software key.

Follow these instructions if the computers are connected by a network

destination computer, you may have to enable the Windows Sharing option on the destination computer; for

more information, search on “drives, sharing” in Windows Help). Do not modify the keyfile.txt name. Click the

OK button. The Transfer dialog box will reappear with the path to *:\winnt folder (for Windows NT) or the
