Site Conditions & Subfloor Preparation

Concrete substrates must be cured (minimum of twenty-eight (28) days) and free of any hydrostatic and/or moisture problems prior to installing rubber flooring.

All rubber flooring is to be installed over surfaces that are firm, structurally sound, dry, sufficiently porous, clean, smooth and level.

Concrete subfloors must be free of paint, wax, dust, oil, sealers, grease, curing agents, surface hardeners, solvents, asphalt, old adhesives and any other contaminants that could inhibit bond strength. Remove contaminants via mechanical abatement.

Site Conditions & Subfloor Preparation

Moisture and alkalinity tests must be preformed, using in-service conditions. Consult manufacturer for requirements.

Ensure a smooth, dense finish, highly compacted with a tolerance of 1/8’’ in a 10 ft radius (3.2 mm in 3.05 m radius).

Minor surface cracks or grooves can be filled with a good quality Portland cement based patching or leveling compound.

Working environment should be kept stable, within a recommended temperature range of 65oF to 86oF (18oC to 30oC).

ASTM approved?

Very unlikely!!

Delivery, Storage and Handling

Materials must be delivered in Manufacturer’s original, unopened and undamaged containers with identification labels intact.

Utilize proper equipment for all handling of rubber flooring. Rolls in particular can be extremely heavy and awkward to maneuver around.

Store sheet goods/rolls upright on a clean, dry, flat surface protected from all possible damage. Tiles should be kept flat with all corners protected.

Avoid stacking/crushing materials to minimize risk of damage.

Recommended environmental condition for storage is a minimum of 55oF (13oC).

Acclimation & Relaxation

Allow all products (flooring, adhesives, paints, etc.) to acclimate to site prior to mixing and/or using.

Before installation, verify product type, size, thickness and color. Identify

and communicate any visual imperfections or variations. Square the room and make the first chalk line down the center of the room

parallel to the length of the room. Rolls: Unroll material in same direction (follow roll sequence). End seams are

staggered and overlapped to allow for trimming. Tiles: Line up the first row of tiles with chalk line. Position tiles in Ashlar pattern (staggered corners).

Allow rubber flooring to relax overnight. Colder facility temperatures may

necessitate longer relaxation time.

Rubber Sheet Goods/Rolls Trim material seams as required, per manufacturer instructions.

Dry lay and rough cut all material to be installed on a given day prior to any adhesion. Rubber sheets can be installed using either the rolled method or folded method. Follow roll sequence.

Consult manufacturer for glue and trowel recommendations. Glue down material as directed. Frequently check for good adhesive transfer (90% min.).

Remove entrapped air with a 100lbs (45kg) roller by rolling in multiple directions.

Use 2” (5 cm) masking tape to help close gaps in the seams. Do not use duct tape. Work seams into place without applying too much pressure to cause peaking.

Apply weights on seams for 24 hours, or longer in colder conditions.

Rubber Tiles Dry lay and cut all material to be installed on a given day prior to adhesion.

Position tiles in Ashlar pattern (staggered corners). Line up the first row of tiles with a chalk line. Lay a second row again, aligning the profiles if applicable. The tiles should be installed in the same direction (arrows on back).

Consult manufacturer for glue and trowel recommendations. Glue one complete row before moving to the next. Frequently check for good adhesive transfer (90% min.).

Painting Consult manufacturer for list of rubber products that can be painted. Surfaces

that will receive paint must be clean and free of contaminants.

Mark off lines using 3M 233+ green masking tape. Press down firmly on inside edge of tape. NOTE: Some athletic surfaces may also require sanding in between taped areas to ensure grab of paint products.

Clean areas between tape with MEK, Acetone or Toluol, and do not wait longer than 30 minutes before applying primer.

Do not cover more grounds than can be painted in respected time periods, as paint is to be applied within 30 minutes of primer application or you may need to prime again.

Paint using HVLP spray equipment or brush, depending on surface texture.

Allow paint 7 days of curing, prior to performing any maintenance on the flooring.
