Thank you for purchasing a Borla Performance Tuner. Borla Performance Tuner (PN-253000) is designed for the Ford Mus-

tang 2.3L Turbo engine with manual or automatic transmissions.**

Borla Performance Industries recommends that you use a professional after market parts installer, who has all the necessary equip-

ment, tools and experienced personnel needed for proper installation. However, should you decide to perform the installation of the

XR-1 Tuner on your own, please ensure that you use all safety precautions including eye protection.

Installation

1. Remove the plastic engine cover to

allow access to the manifold pressure

sensor. (See Fig. 1)

2. Remove the top of the air-filter hous-

ing and disconnect the air-inlet hose at

the hose-clamp. (See Fig. 2)

3. Unscrew the bolt holding the lower

portion of the air-filter housing. (See

Fig. 3)

4. Remove the air-filter housing from the

vehicle. This will allow routing the

wires to the pressure sensor that is

located on the intercooler discharge

side. (See Fig. 4)

WARNING: Use extreme caution

during installation. Torque all fas-

teners according to manufacturer’s

torque values and tightening se-

quence. DO NOT use air impact tools

to tighten fasteners on your Borla

Performance Tuner. Use of such tools

may result in over-tightening of fas-

teners.

5. Image 5 shows the wiring harness.

The next image shows the pressure

sensor mounted on the intercooler. It

is possible to reach the sensor on the

intercooler and un-plug the OEM sen-

sor by reaching in from where the air

filter housing was mounted. Simply

plug in the XR-1 connector into the

sensor and the other XR-1 connector

into the OEM harness.

6. This image is shown for reference and

to make it easier to identify and un-

plug the pressure sensor connector.

There is enough room to reach the

connector via the opening where the

air-filter housing sits, but difficult to

get a visual of the sensor / connector.

Nevertheless, this method of access-

ing the sensor is quicker than remov-

ing the front bumper cover to reach

the sensor / connector. (See Fig. 6)

6. Unplug the connector from the pres-

sure sensor on the intake manifold.

6. After the connector is unplugged,

simply plug in the XR-1 connector

into the sensor and the other XR-1

connector into the OEM harness.

9. Unscrew the indicated nut on the

shock tower. Unscrew the indicated

bolt. The stainless steel bracket will

be mounted here and held in place by

these fasteners.

10. It is typically easier to mount the XR-

1 Tuner on the bracket prior to place-

ment in the engine compartment. The

supplied plastic push pins are used for

this purpose. It is also easier if you

plug in the FCI connector before fit-

ting the bracket / XR-1 Tuner assem-

bly in place.

11. Install the bracket and tighten the fas-

teners to secure the bracket.

12. Re-insert the air-filter housing and

fasten the air-filter housing.

13. Re-install the top of the air-filter

housing, re-connect the air-inlet hose

and tighten the hose-clamp.

14. Place the plastic engine cover in its

position and fasten.

Your Borla XR-1 Tuner installation is now

complete, go for a test drive and enjoy the

additional power!
