    Write-in candidates ruled the polls

April 5 in the city of St. George, with

    the incumbent mayor squaring off

against a current alderman who is aproponent of dissolving the city.

    Alderman Carmen Wilkerson, an

    ofcial write-in candidate for mayor,

received 156 votes (53 percent) to

    incumbent mayor Mary E. Kaufmanns

    137 votes (47 percent).

    Ofcial results may not be

available for at least two weeks. The

St. Louis County Board of Election

    Commissioners has that amount of

time to certify the votes and the write-

    in candidates.

There were two seats up for grabs in

    Ward 2. Incumbent alderman Barbara

Dierstein was appointed to the board

in 2010. She was seeking election to

ll out that unexpired term. Dierstein

received 47 votes; there were 52 write-

    in votes.

No candidate led for the secondseat in Ward 2. Write-in candidates

    received 54 votes.

One seat was open in Ward 3.

    The votes were: 37 write-in, 36 for

incumbent Herbert S. Pyne and 19 for

    Thomas A. True.

The ofcial outcome of elections in

Wards 2 and 3 were not available from

    the Board of Election Commissioners

    at press time (check www.

    southcountytimes.com for updates).

In Ward 1, incumbent Dianne C.

Burns was re-elected with 79 votes,

95 percent of ballots cast. There were

four write-in votes for this seat.

In what became a fairly close race

April 5 for spots on the Lindbergh

    Schools Board of Education,

    incumbents Kathleen Kienstra and

Donald Bee held onto their seats.

    Narrowly defeating candidates

Joseph Sartorius, Leslie J. Weiss and

    George Rezabek for the remaining

    seat was former state representative

    Vicki Lorenz Englund.

Kienstra led the way with 4,346

    votes (21 percent) to Bees 3,784 (18

percent). Not far behind was Englund,

who received 3,711 votes (18 percent).

Weiss came in with 3,086 votes (15

    percent) and Rezabek received 2,326

votes (11 percent). There were 25

    write-in votes.

    Kienstra, Bee and Englund will

serve three-year terms on the board.

    Bellavia, an incumbent who

has served on several district and

    superintendent committees, received
