*"Sustain*or*Squander"**by*Amy*Cohen*Efron**9"x12"*Conté*Dry*Pastels**Inspired*by*Chuck*Baird*#inspirationchallengeday6chuck*The*title,*"Sustain*or*Squander"*3*look*at*the*hands...*you*can*hold*the*earth*to*sustain,*or*take*away*earth's*resources*to*squander.*Also*the*classifier*is*used*to*sign*"Globe/Earth"*3*This*is*an*mixture*of*resistance*and*affirmation*art*3*to*educate*us*about*Paris*Accord,*that*our*country*backed*out.*That*makes*me*mad*too.***************

*Rosemary*Edwards*Parker*Inspired*by*chuck*Baird's*nine*lives*painting.*I*used*my*own*hands*and*my*cat,*Wilma*.*This*one*is*the*easiest*choice*of*Chuck*Baird.*This*is*actually*the*first*DeVIA*art*I*ever*bought.*My*friend*bought*the*post*card*for*herself*33*that*is*when*I*saw*it*33*I*told*her*that*is*so*cool!*Where*did*you*get!?*She*said*at*ASL*event*something*I*can't*remember*33*I*told*her*if*she*sees*this*again*get*it*for*me!*And*she*did!*After*owning*that*post*card*3*I*went*on*to*look*Chuck*Baird*up*33*was*in*awe*of*his*work.*That*was*a*while*before*he*passed*away.*After*his*passing*I*made*a*point*of*really*going*out*to*meet*other*artist*and*I*went*back*into*art*for*myself*after*my*boys*got*older*where*"they*don't*need*me"....So*with*this*challenge,*I*chose*this*picture*because*the*cat*in*the*photo*is*my*cat,*Wilma,*the*cat*with*issues*(that's*another*story...).******

*Nancy*Rourke*"Primary*Colour"*16*inch*by*20*inch*oil*on*canvas**Inspired*by*Chuck*Baird's*Color.*With*Chuck*Baird's*hand*in*all*colour*wheel,*I*use*only*Rourkeism*colour*that*is*Red,*Yellow*and*Blue.*They*each*have*a*meaning.*Red*is*empowerment.*Yellow*is*HOPE*and*light*so*Deaf*people*can*see*each*other*and*Blue*is*OPPRESSION.*Rourkeism*is*the*name*and*style*of*the*colours*that*I*use*in*paintings.**The*name*"Rourkeism"*was*given*to*me*as*an*honour*to*the*style*that*I*use*in*my*own*paintings.**

*Heart*of*the*Matter*by*PDurr**"Feel*of*a*Flower"*by*PDurr*The*HeART*of*the*Matter**P*durr**Watercolor**11x15*Inspired*by*Chuck*bairds*left*and*right*painting*his*heart*X3ray*mixed*media*piece*and*his*art*no*2*piece.**Love*ya*chuck*the*left*and*right*painting*by*chuck*he*was*showing*the*creativity*and*different*functions*of*the*brain*3*logical,*mathematical*creative*and*expressive*sides*and*night*and*day*and*how*those*aspects*of*our*brain*are*made*manifest*through*our*hands*and*our*actions.*he*has*two*cali*lillies*in*honor*of*harry*williams*his*friend*as*harry*loved*cali*lilies*and*used*them*in*his*art*alot.*the*cross*here*to*show*how*the*brain*crosses*over*to*communication*with*different*sides*of*the*body.*i*asked*chuck*why*the*chair*was*there*for*the*vase*with*the*flowers*and*he*said*he*was*fascinated*by*how*when*you*go*to*court*and*testify*its*called*"taking*the*stand"*but*you*do*it*by*sitting*down*so*the*chair*is*to*"take*the*stand"*to*"bear*witness"*to*"testify"(*and*now*i*interpret*this*to*also*mean*to*not*be*a*bystander*but*to*Stand*(take*the*stand*by*sitting*and*testifying)**

i*put*the*heart*instead*of*the*brain*because*i*think*heart*(which*is*more*like*our*soul*here)*is*not*just*a*powerful*organ*/*machine*etc*but*it*also*gives*us*the*sense*of*feeling*of*empathy*of*love*of*hope*of*compassion*of*passion*etc*it*is*more*powerful*than*evertyhing*LOVE*HOPE*and*FAITH*and*because*i*think*in*many*ways*ART*is*the*HeART*of*who*we*are*3*even*folks*who*dont*really*appreciate*or*enjoy*art*3*if*you*ask*them*you*will*find*they*LOVE*something*3*sports,*politics,*computers,*puzzles,*etc*most*people*need*creative*outlets**there*is*much*to*us*we*do*not*fully*utilize*or*understand*(also*probably*because*chucks*Xray*Heart*artwork*3*its*important*to*me*but*i*didnt*want*to*use*the*heart*shape*he*used*3*i*wanted*to*use*a*real*heart*3*ive*been*obsessed*with*the*heart*motif*for*a*while*now*;*)**i*enjoyed*doing*this*artwork*because*it*seems*for*this*challenge*3*i*really*wanted*to*work*from*the*deceased*artists*3*from*their*artworks*that*were*calling*me*to*look*a*little*more*deeply*and*then*to*try*to*reuse*their*imagery*to*expand*their*stories*as*i*felt*them.*in*the*past*for*challenges*3*i*always*used*something*as*a*jumping*off*point*to*allow*myself*to*just*go*play*but*with*these*challenges*3*i*kinda*just*forced*myself*to*study*their*artwork*3*their*style*within*an*artwork*knowing*that*i*could*NOT*ever*match*their*skill*but*to*try*to*really*do*homage*to*them*by*appropriating*their*imagery*and*applying*it*to*the*message*i*wanted*to*communicate.*it*really*was*a*good*challenge*for*me.******************
