The harness can only be used again after inspection and approval by a trained and certified competent person. CHECK THE LAST INSPECTION AND CERTIFICATION DATE Each harness must be inspected and certified annually. Check the last date when this inspection took place. The date should never be more than a year ago. CHECK THE IMPACT INDICATOR After a fall is arrested, the harness’ impact indicator is activated. This is a colored piece of webbing that is teared after a fall. If the impact indicator is activated, don’t use the harness. INSPECT THE LABELS All labels must be intact and legible INSPECT THE WEBBING Check the webbing for tears and cuts. These indicate that the strength of the harness might be compromised. Other signs of damage to the fiber are discoloration, burns, molten parts or abrasions. CHECK FOR SEVERE POLLUTION Severe pollution and corrosion indicate that a harness isn’t properly stored or maintained. Check whether the harness is clean and the metals are unimpaired. INSPECT THE HARDWARE Look for deformations or damage to buckles, D-ring or eyelets. Also, check whether the locking mechanism of the buckles work properly. In addition to the checklist below, read the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding the pre-use check to make sure you don’t miss anything.
