02 What we do

We’re responsible for the design, development and delivery of every product and service that BT offers its customers. If we can do this faster and more competitively, BT will become the first choice for our customers.

Our services are integral to everyday life

03 How we do it

We work with the business, interpreting what technology and innovation requirements customers need from BT to help them be successful. We do this through our chief information officers (CIOs) and their teams.

How we do it

We have five market facing unit chief information officer teams and one working internally on behalf of Group. Primarily, our work falls into these areas:

• helping to keep existing customers by developing and delivering great products and services at a competitive cost

• helping BT to win new business by staying ahead of market trends, and offering customers exciting ways to use technology to be successful – at home and at work

• finding ways to speed up the service we offer customers and make it simpler for them to do business with BT - by transforming our systems, providing automation and making it cheaper to do business.

All this is underpinned by a global architecture and platforms team, and a global networks team, whose job it is to ensure that, when we deliver service to customers, we do it in a way that’s reliable, flexible and responsive to their needs, and at the most competitive market cost.

04 Our strategy

Our TSO2020 ambition will transform our business so we can help BT to grow.

Strategy

As BT’s technology powerhouse, our ambition is to create brilliant converged services over the best network. By doing that we’ll help BT to stand out from the competition and inspire our customers. And that will make us all proud.

Our strategy is about creating stand-out services that offer customers and employees an effortless experience. We’ll do that over the number one network and through the skills and desire of our talented technology teams. These are our pillars.

05 Innovation

Innovation has always been at the heart of BT's business and today it's vital to BT's strategy for growth.

TSO is at the heart of that innovation. Our smart thinking is helping to improve our service to customers, reduce our costs, speed our delivery of products and services and create new business opportunities.

BT’s research team in Adastral Park, our technology scouts in Silicon Valley and around the world, and our relationship with leading universities such as MIT and Cambridge provides us with world-recognised technical and scientific expertise.

But innovation isn’t just for a specific team; it’s a key part of everyone’s day job, whether it’s creating novel products, improving the way we work, or directly improving customer experience. We all have a role to play.
