Kids Christmas Party

What a great day it was at the Lodge on Tuesday, Dec 14, when a group of homeless children were bussed up to our Lodge for an eve-ning of joy. Jim Matthews chaired the event, which was arranged by Joe Pikula and Eileen Torres. The party started with foods all kids like, lots of hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries, sodas, topped with candy, ice cream, cakes and cookies. They played some games led by Chel-sea Matthews and this was followed by an appearance of some TV Characters. Sponge Bob, Elmo, Winnie The Pooh, and Dora The Ex-plorer were a big hit at the party and they were present through the good graces of the Yorktown Leos Club….represented by: Erik Alva-rado, Jackie Bucci, Emily Collins, Michelle DeIceo, Ryan Finne-gan, Nikki Fioretti, Francesca Giordano, Shannen Lampert, Matt Lennox, Alex Liu, Sabrina Lopez, Erin McGuiness, Conor San-lon, Kayla Schmidt, Taylor Tuccito.

Our thanks go to our volunteers who served the children , baked, and donated various items for the party: Mike Adamovich, Mary Blackadder, Clara Cartelli, Paul Egan, Liz Gentile, Jim Matthews, Chelsea Matthews, Bill O”Reilly, Joe Pi-kula, Ed Santiago, Betsy Solow, Tony Venditti, and Jim Vignola.

Helpers, Kayla Franze and Melissa Guckian wrote letters from Santa to those who missed the party because of a transporta-tion problem at the children’s home. The children left with lots of food to share with their friends.

On November 6, our volunteers travelled to Saint Agatha’s in Nyack to serve at the Hudson Valley Region’s Adap-tive Games. Our group catered to about 40 athletes, many of whom were in wheel chairs, as they were ushered about to enjoy a day of light exercise and fun . Our thanks go to our members who sacrificed their time to help make this a great day. There’s nothing better than a cheerful giver. Above l-r ...Bill O’Reilly, Liz Gentile, Paul Egan, Clara Cartelli, Danny LoPresti, Jennie Grasso, Mike Mullins, Grace Gibney, John Murray, Mary Blackadder, Betsy Solow, Molly Covino and Bruno Bagala. SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Thanks To Tony Venditti for doing the set up for the Charity Pancake breakfast. Kudos to Jim Morrison who ran a successful Charity Poker night on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Thanks to Alan Murphy for the plumbing repairs in the bathroom, to Paul Egan and Damian Mercurio for doing some electrical work in our Lodge, and to Joe Cacciola for wiring up the new stereo sound system at the bar. Ted Galgano, Ed Santiago, Donie Simione, Tony Venditti and Jim Vignola

managed to move all the equipment in and out of the bar area, and still keep it open to our cus-tomers, during the recent paint job it received in December. Thanks also go to Vic Bonci, and grandson Dominic, Damian Mercurio, and Danny LoPresti who voluntarily acted as our fast clean-up crew during the Special Olympics Awards dinner. Thanks to Mike Adamovich for his do-nation to the bar, and to Steve Smith for his donation to bingo. A special thanks goes to Betsy Solow and to Paul Egan, Jim Morrison, Donie Simione, and Jim Vignola for their work at the Christmas Party.

YOUR ENF DOLLARS AT WORK Each Year, the Elks National Foundation makes monies available to qualifying subordinate Lodges through their Grants Program. Mary De Silva, our Lodge ENF chairlady, applied for and received two such grants because we reached our per capita donation early in the Elk year and we met the qualifying criteria set forth for each grant. On Jan 4, our Lodge presented a check for $1,000 to the Yorktown Town Board for a refurbishing project for the Yorktown Seniors at the Cul-tural Center. This money was received as a Gratitude Grant from the Elks National Foundation for use in a Seniors program. The second $1000 grant, for Youth programs, was used to purchase dictionaries and will be used in the spring for our Drug Awareness/ Dare Program Youth graduation celebration at our Lodge. These grants are made possible through our member contributions to ENF. Pictured are: Lodge members PER Mary De Silva, PER Rich De

Silva, ER Andy Tumolo, Don Peters, Town Councilmen Terrance Murphy and Nick Bianco along with Town Su-pervisor Susan Siegel, and Town Councilman Jim Mortarano.

On Sunday, Dec 5, our Lodge gathered together for it’s annual memorial service to pay tribute to those who passed away during the last two years. It was very gratifying to see the many Elk members and our guests participating in this event. A group of about 65 people attended the ceremony conducted by our Lodge Officers. Our departed members are listed to the right…... May they Rest In Peace.

ELKS CARE ELKS SHARE

On Nov 7, a pancake breakfast was held at our Lodge to raise money for our Lodge Major Project—Special Olympics, and the NYSEA Major Project - Cerebral Palsy, two of our lodge major Charities. Our Lodge provided the fa-cility and the food, and the Leos provided all the manpower…..they did the advertising, they sold tickets, they cooked the food, they served the patrons and did the clean-up and provided entertainment for children by portraying the popular TV characters of Sponge Bob, Winnie The Pooh, Elmo, and Dora The Explorer. The event was coordinated by Rich & Mary De Silva, and Meghan McGowan who chaired the event for the Leos. Chef Matt Arruda and his wife Amanda guided the cooks in the kitchen, as they prepared pan-cakes, sausages, and bacon for the many patrons who supported the event. The Leos did an outstanding job, and the event proved to be a great success. The net proceeds of $1020 was split evenly between the two designated charities identified above.

On December 3, our Lodge hosted the Third Annual Special Olympics Awards Dinner. Prior to the start of the awards presentation program, Joe Pikula, Lodge Major Project Chairman, welcomed the Special Olympics guests and introduced the Leos representatives for their check presentation. Meghan McGowan, Leos vice president and pancake breakfast chairlady and Ali Fein, president (pictured top l,r) presented a check to the Hudson Valley Region Special Olympics for $510 from the proceeds of the pancake breakfast. Joe also presented a $1000 check from our Lodge to Tom Hay, Executive Director of the Hudson Valley Region Special Olympics Organization (pic bot-tom l,r)
