Adaptability to

change is probably

one of the best

attributes to ensure

not only success but

happiness.

A Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, once said “Change is the only constant”. For those of us that have had the privilege of living a bit longer than others, if there is one advice which applies to people and societies as well as companies, is that adaptability to change is probably one of the best attributes to ensure not only success, but happiness. One of the things that I tried to ensure PACIV manages well is the reality that, we as a company, as well as individuals performing within it, will be exposed to constant change. The key is how we react to that change and how clear we are of our core values. Ironically, it’s that centered and clear focus of what is not to change that provides you with the proper flexibility to adapt to the changing times, while remaining true to who we are. By the time you read this Newsletter, 2017 has not only started but already shown how we have assimilated three (3) significant changes introduced at the beginning of the year.

1) Douglas (Mácar) Garrote, our new CFO and VP of Administration, will be in his 4th month leading all our administrative functions in all our offices. 2) Gary Rodríguez will be on his 3rd month as Business Development Manager in our Puerto Rico office. 3) Milagros Deliz, our previous Business Development Manager in Puerto Rico will have been a few months into her role as Outsourcing Services Manager of our newly open Outsourcing Services division. These changes are not only significant for our organization but also for the people impacted by it, starting by the people leading it, Mácar, Gary and Milagros. In this edition, you will hear from Mácar and Gary so you can get to know more about them. Hopefully you will connect with them on a personal level and as such help them make their transition into PACIV more smooth. Mácar writes about his experience visiting the PACIV-USA office for the first time and Gary is featured in our “Did You Know?” section performing one of his passions, “BBQ” cooking.

“Recently in February I visited our Indianapolis office and spent time with all our administration leaders at the office.

It was a great opportunity to work side by side with Lora Morgan, our Accounting Lead with all the budget preparation for our USA office, it served as a great opportunity to exchange information and support of our Ireland office with their budget as well.

The tremendous collaboration of Rick Straw, VP of Administration and Bill Waers, Instrumentation Procurement Manager, also helped not only the USA office but also the Ireland office preparing our ISP forecast and challenges PACIV will be facing this year globally.

Sharing with Terri Saxhaug, Office Administrator, was valuable as well identifying the status of all our policies, procedures as well as harmonizing documents and reports PACIV shares among our three offices around the world.

This trip gave the administration staff the opportunity to share and understand through our Director’s meeting our front office needs and necessary support.

Sharing with Doug Metrish, Operations Leader as well as Chris Sormalis, the Business Developer Leader, promoted brainstorming opportunities on new areas of collaboration between our offices and exploring the possibilities of exchanging resources to capitalize

on new ventures.

I want to thank Rick Straw and his team for a great opportunity to work together and tremendous hospitality during my stay.”

Oscars Movie Night

Recently, Bridget Ballista, Automation/Validation Engineer I, Eduardo Pérez, Automation/Validation Engineer I and Mácar Garrote, CFO/VP of Administration attended the “Great Night of the Cinema Benefit” in San Patricio Plaza Movie Theater in Guaynabo, PR.

This past Christmas season, the PACIV Ireland team and their families gathered for a night of fun at the “Cork on Ice” rink.

Our associates Philip Lordan, Automation Engineer I, Brian Duggan, Automation Engineer I, Ivan Petrovic, Automation Engineer II, Brendan Hyland, Business Development Manager and Daiva Peckeliuniene, Sr. Accounting/HR Leader all enjoyed ice skating with their co-workers and families.

In an impressive 800 square meters on the grounds of Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork, “Cork on Ice” is an accessible venue where people can enjoy figure skating and ice hockey.

The experience was filled with music, food and light that brought out the Christmas spirit in everyone!

The event, which raises money for charities, takes place the same night of the Academy Awards Ceremony and the attendees enjoy a night of food, drinks, and watch the Oscars Award Ceremony in the theater.

PACIV annually participates in this event and raffles the tickets to the PR associates. This year, the fortunate associates enjoyed posing with this year’s movie characters such as “Jackie Kennedy” from the movie “Jackie” and “Katherine Johnson”, “Dorothy Vaughan” and “Mary Jackson” from the movie “Hidden Figures”.

“I can pretty much say my move from PR to USA was a very hasty one and kind of like a leap of faith. I always envisioned myself moving to the states and just having the experience of living somewhere else for a while. Thankfully PACIV has provided that opportunity and I am just beginning to learn new things about myself and from living in the USA. I can fairly say that it was not an easy decision to make, leaving your family and friends behind, not being able to say: “Hey, I am going to visit my friends or family” and then remembering like, “Oh, wait, I need to buy an airline ticket first and need to wait to hug them for a while”. The point is that you sacrifice a lot of important things but in the good of exploring, challenging yourself and simply just living life.

The good thing is that nowadays technology has closed a huge gap in physical distance and I can call my friends or family with a click of a button. Suddenly there they are right in front of you and that is a huge advantage and a precious one to have.

Moving forward to my experience being here in Indianapolis, so far I must honestly say it has been a positive one. I arrived on January 23, 2017 and the first thing that hit me is, guess what? THE WEATHER. Most Puerto Ricans (or maybe just me) are not made for the cold, I can tell you that for sure it has been a challenge to get acclimated to the weather, but the locals have been telling me that this year the winter has been very mild so I guess, I’m lucky? Not sure yet on that one. Aside from that, Indiana is a very beautiful state and truth be told my fiancé and I weren’t expecting it to be such a lovely place with a lot of trails to walk, beautiful nature, very nice people, music events and lots of stuff to do (when the climate gets warmer of course). Also, just having the opportunity

of doing road trips and visiting other states is pretty cool. I have been already to Ann Arbor, Michigan (3 hours and 45 minute drive) and enjoyed seeing new things and just having a good time overall. Chicago, you are next… Being here now in the USA, I have a deeper appreciation of being a “Boricua” and I'm proud everywhere I go of my Latin roots. Nevertheless, the world is a very big place and I believe in going and learning what’s out there by traveling to new places, exploring new things and mainly having new experiences to share even if that means moving out of my island in the Caribbean.

Change can be a very frightening thing and getting out of your comfort zone is not easy but once you do it you can accomplish anything. PS, if someone can send me “viandas” I will really appreciate it.”
