25th February, 2010 - Match Review #51 Brighouse Town’s eighth straight win has propelled them to the top of KoolSport NCEL Division One for the first time.
They came from behind in the last five minutes at home to beat visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 3-2, to leapfrog above Leeds Carnegie and AFC Emley.
Wayne Harratt and Lee Dawson had seemingly put the away side on the road to victory but Darryl Leach struck on 85 minutes and Lee Burgess quickly added his second to mark an amazing comeback.
Elsewhere, Bottesford Town climbed to ninth with a 2-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur, Paul Chatterton and James Taylor with their goals in the second half.
Four more teams have joined AFC Emley in the last eight of the League Cup with the biggest surprise being Grimsby Borough’s 5-0 win at home to Premier Division highfliers, Selby Town.
Hosts Pickering Town beat Staveley Miners Welfare 4-2 but needed two goals in the last ten minutes to progress, firstly a Tom Adams penalty and then Liam Salt’s second of the evening in injury time.
A second half double from Pontefract Collieries saw them through 2-0 at home to Teversal whilst Parkgate were 4-2 winners at Shirebrook Town.
Five of the goals came in the opening period which the away side just edged thanks to Nathan Swindell’s 43rd minute strike.
Andrew Gascoigne made sure of the victory with a penalty midway through the second half.
And, in the Premier Division, fifth-placed Scarborough Athletic beat next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway 2-1 at Queensgate.
Ryan Blott had put the hosts ahead on twelve
minutes before Rob Northern’s spot kick with two minutes remaining ensured the three points but not before Lee Beesley gave Moorlands a consolation with an injury time penalty.
28th February, 2010 - Match Review #52 Despite no game at Nostell Miners Welfare due to a waterlogged pitch, Bridlington Town stay six points clear at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after Saturday’s action.
That’s because their closest rivals, Rainworth Miners Welfare, were thrashed 5-1 at home by in-form Thackley.
Matthew Mathers struck a hat-trick whilst Rob Morgan and Dean Walters also found the net for the visitors whilst Craig Mitchell’s 66th-minute strike was the only piece of joy for Rudy Funk’s side.
Thackley move to within two points of third placed Armthorpe Welfare who also did not play.
Scarborough Athletic, who are fifth, lost some ground as they were beaten 3-1 by visitors Parkgate.
Jamie Jones and Andrew Gascoigne had the Rotherham side two-up by the break, Ryan Blott pulled one back for the hosts on 52 minutes but Nathan Swindells got the vital third for the away side midway through the second period.
Arnold Town moved up to eighth with a 3-0 win at Maltby Main, Tony Law with a brace – one from the spot – and Nick Hall with the third.
Shirebrook Town picked up three vital points in their survival bid as they won 2-1 at bottom side, Brodsworth Welfare.
Darren Bettison and Jay Whalley gave them a two goal cushion in the first half and held on despite a late consolation from Andy Robson. E

Shirebrook, who remain eighteenth, are now six points clear of Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the bottom two but have played four games more.
Christopher Wood was the hat-trick hero for Hallam as they won 4-0 at home to Hall Road Rangers whilst Andy Philp’s goal eight minutes from time earned Liversedge a dramatic 3-2 victory over visitors Dinnington Town.
And, Winterton Rangers played out a 0-0 draw at home to Pickering Town having been reduced to ten men by the dismissal of Danny Frost on the half hour.
The top two in Division One extended the gap between themselves and the rest as the promotion race continues to gather momentum.
Leaders Brighouse Town earned a vital 3-0 win over third-placed visitors AFC Emley to move six points clear of them thanks to a 43rd minute Danny Toronczak opener added to in the second period by Nathan Carman and Darryl Leach.
Second placed Leeds Carnegie ran riot at home to Appleby Frodingham as a Chibuzor Chilaka hat- trick, doubles from Andy Cooper and Kyle Hawthorne and a strike from Matt Chilton saw them romp to an 8-0 victory.
Tadcaster Albion climb to fourth after Terry Taylor’s 38th-minute goal earned them a 1-0 win at home to the side they go over, Staveley Miners Welfare.
And, they are an outside bet for promotion as they have games in hand on all the sides above them.
Eccleshill United return to the bottom of the table after their 2-1 defeat at Rossington Main, replacing Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who claimed a goalless draw at Glasshoughton Welfare.
And, a debut for former England international Chris Waddle was not enough for Teversal as they went down 3-1 at home to Barton Town Old Boys.
All the goals came in the first half with Luke Fisher’s tenth-minute own goal giving Barton the lead and, after Danny Plumbe had levelled the scores, Lee Moulds and Ryan Morton ensured the win that moves the visitors up to eighth.
4th March, 2010 - Match Review #53 Bridlington Town have extended their lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division to nine points with a 4-1 at home to sixth- placed Selby Town.
The Seasiders also broke through the 100 goals scored barrier with Craig Hogg’s second of the evening on 28 minutes after he’d first cancelled out an early opener from Selby’s Steve Lyon.
Bridlington then had to wait until the last two minutes to stretch their lead further, Nathan Hotte and Neil Towler with the goals.
Second-placed Rainworth Miners Welfare were in Notts Senior Cup action where they bowed out at the Quarter Final stage with a 4-2 defeat at home to Dunkirk despite late strikes from Ant Lynam and Matt Draper.
That gave Armthorpe Welfare a chance to move to within a point of the Wrens which they did with a 5-0 win over visitors Brodsworth Welfare.
The away side, who are adrift at the bottom of the table, were reduced to ten men in the eighth minute and also found themselves behind to a Liam Hardy penalty.
Craig Fletcher and David Buck made it a three-goal cushion for Armthorpe by the interval whilst James Walker’s strike and Liam Hardy’s second completed the scoring in the last ten minutes.
The four sides above Brodsworth at the wrong end of the table all had bad midweeks with defeats at home.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway’s 1-0 defeat at home to Winterton Rangers, courtesy of an 81st minute Danny Frost penalty, means they stay six points adrift of eighteenth-placed Shirebrook Town who were beaten 4-2 by Parkgate.
The hosts were winning at half-time thanks to a Peter Stubley brace after Parkgate had taken the lead through William Senior.
But, Senior levelled soon after the interval before Ryan Johnson and Andrew Gascoigne gave the visitors an unassailable lead by the hour mark.
